This little takeout spot is the epicenter of my love for Indonesian food. It is my garden of eden, where I first took a bite of a sweet egg and some spicy green beans, and suddenly the world would never be the same.(and god may have become angry at my pleasure) Extremely kind staff who have on more than one occasion spent time explaining to my guests in Dutch and English what ingredients are what. Price is right and the taste is great.

4 star for the coconut chicken vegetables that they serve like my mom, well almost like my mom used to make it. 4 stars for being almost the only Indonesian takeaway the serves the dishes that I like for affordable prices. I have to explain though… Indonesian takeaway serve these fixed priced rames dishes with a load full of rice or noodles in the bottom, topped with 2 vegetables and 2 meat dishes of choice and an egg. But when you’re on a low carb lifestyle, rice and noodles are a big No No, so I have to order the veggies and meat seperate and that will add up fast because then you pay by the volume… I almost always order the same when I’m there… I always go for the mix veggies with the dried coconut sprinkled on top, the eggplant in peanut sauce, the coconut chicken, the egg in peanut sauce and the curry chicken, sometimes I go for the rendang. I used to go to Tjin’s often for their lamb roti wrap, which is right next to Warung Celebes. But nowadays I pass Tjin’s and go straight to Warung, leaving the guy behind Tjin’s counter giving me the what-did-I-do-wrong-look. You did nothing wrong my friend, but Warung just makes my momma’s coconut chicken. My mom’s coconut chicken is still the best, but this is a good replacement!

A neighbourhood takeaway restaurant with a few tables, that makes this a great place for a cheap lunch. Its dishes are quite authentic, with lots of vegetable dishes. Staff is very friendly. Its acar kuning and daging semur are excellent, but its rendang could still be improved. The closest thing to Southeast Asian(street-)food if you work in the concrete ghetto that is called the Zuidas. Highly recommended!
