Cadre ancien et décor chargé mais ni kitch ni rococo ! Si vous finissez l’Estouffade après la soupe, respect !

I loved this place. Went here a couple of weeks ago on vacation. Friendly staff and nice cozy atmosphere, but it is the food that gets the 5 stars. I had the stewing steak which was a good portion and really tasty. My fiancé had the fried muscles which were amazing. If I ever get a chance to go to Amsterdam again I will go here and get the muscles.

Very good place! Perfect dutch shrimp cocktail, a bit bleak mussels, but really best apple pie, I’ve had in Ams, served witch cinnamon ice cream. Sweet atmosphere and not too many tourists.

Definitely not«best of Unilocal». Food was overlooked. Roasted potatoes, ribs, vegetables. Ribs were dry. Potatoes were mushy. Salad was just a bunch of iceberg lettuce. The table clothes are like an old rug, which seemed grimy. Placemats were cheesy paper. The walls are covered with theater posters. Lampshades are torn. There’s nothing remarkable about this place. The service is adequate. The food is edible. However there are so many great restaurants in this neighborhood, definitely skip this one. There wasn’t a local in the place, which is emblematic of this place. It’s

I went here with my dad for a late dinner and it was great! My dad got their beef stew and I had the fried mussels with fries. Both of us had a lot to eat, and it was just as good as some of the more pricey places in Amsterdam. It’s right in the 9 Straatjes, which is really delightful and quiet at night. The restaurant doesn’t have outside seating, but if you want to hide from the rain this is a good place to do it.

I liked this place, we came to Amsterdam and wanted somewhere that had traditional Dutch food. We made a reservation, yet had to wait a half hour for all of us to be seated. It wasn’t really a huge problem, we just figured that we’d sit at the bar and order something to drink. However, it took 10 minutes for the bartender to even look at us and ask us if we wanted anything, I don’t know it was just bizarre. The table we were supposed to sit at was taking longer than usual so the owner of the restaurant took our order while we were at the bar so that it would be ready once we sat down. To drink we ordered a few Amstel’s on draft which were € 3. To eat, I started with a french onion soup that was very good, and for my entrée I ordered the fillet steak which came with salad and fries. Everything went well and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Amsterdam.

Amazing place, great food, and great service. Excellent value, a lot of food for a low price. The stewing steak is a must try, a traditional dutch dish and recipe. It’s a bit salty, but balanced out by the cooked vegetables. Although there are a lot of complaints about the vegetables here, we got a salad and the cooked vegetables, and neither were bad. We got the daily special, duck, marinated in a wine and mushroom sauce, which was pretty good, and grilled salmon, also not bad. Nothing exceptional, though. Dessert was amazing. You must save room, especially for the apple pie, cinnamon ice cream, and Chantilly(that’s one dessert!!!). We all loved it, a generous slice of pie, with two scoops of cinnamon ice cream in a a waffle bowl, and a dollop of cream. As my eleven year old daughter described, «Heaven on a plate.»

Above average in some things but far below average in others– namely the awful vegetables and inedible salad. Dessert was very skippable. You can do better!

Loved this place! Great menu and good service. The beer was good and they have a surprisingly good wine list. It’s Dutch traditional and hard to beat!

Two stars only due to décor and my daughters saying they like their ribs and salmon. Food, particularly the veggies, were over cooked and bland. Service not exceptional. Bathroom not sanitary.

I would give a better review. But they tried to scam us twice. Charging us for two items we did not order, while arguing about it with typical local charm. We had to wait, and they found out it was my birthday, they did not even offer a glass of wine or a smile. The stew was very good. The mussels were lame. I would want to go back, but I try and support spots that know how to respect the customer.

Lovely local atmosphere and menu. Service requires standard levels of patience but worth the wait. It was trippy hearing a country CD among traditional Dutch surroundings.

Any charm that this place has is lost thanks to the horrendous service. I’m not sure why the waiters have such a bad attitude but it’ll eventually drive this place out of business.

We ate here on Christmas Day during our first trip to Amsterdam. It’s a cozy spot with nice local décor recommended by our hotel. My wife had the traditional Dutch Stewing Steak, and it was amazing, I wish I’d ordered it. Her brussel sprouts and green beans were a bit overcooked and tasteless, though, and the cauliflower was limp. I order the steak filet and chips, and while the steak was cooked well, it was plain and a tad bland. Not terrible, but not great either. The service was like the food — just OK. Besides the Stewing Steak, not much else was that good about our meal. In the end, it was a bit disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend coming back. There are better meals to be had in Amsterdam.

As often as I walk past this restaurant there are always people in it enjoying a good meal. They have a good selection of things on their menu that are really quite tasty. In fact they even have authentic dutch food. The atmosphere inside is gezellig. It’s comfortable like being in your grandmother’s house. There are all sorts of things hanging from the ceiling and walls adding to the overall ambiance. The tables are covered with not a table cloth but what almost felt like a table rug. There were five of us for dinner. We all ordered something different. The chef was really accommodating as one of our group being a vegan had special needs and requests. What he made for her she actually enjoyed. One ordered the trout. another ordered the ribs. Another ordered Suddervlees naar«Oma’s Recept» met aardappelpuree en groenten. Stewing steak, according to a traditional Dutch recipe. Estouffade de boeuf hollandaise avec légumes. I ordered the Varkenshaas in champignonroomsaus. Fillet of pork, with a cream of mushroom sauce. Filet de porc aux champignons, avec une sauce à la crème. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We also ordered a bottle of red wine recommended by our waitress that was also very flavorful. Then, a few of us had dessert. I had the apple pie with cinnamon and vanilla ice cream and persuaded another person in our group to try the apple pie. We both enjoyed our selection. Overall, it was a nice leisurely dinner spent with good company in a great restaurant. The service was good and the food didn’t take too long to come out. We each paid about 25 euros for a fine meal. I’d definitely go back and I fully recommend it as a place for locals or tourists. There is plenty for everyone.
