Why oh why do I do it to myself? I’m not a fan of this place at all, but once in awhile, I punish myself, by popping in for an overpriced combination of milk, coffee and hot water. Well this particular branch of Starbucks happens to also double as a kind of school social area. Lots and lots of teenage girls, who should actually be at school, sit here, and while away the hours until they are old enough to sit outside and start smoking and shouting properly. The future of Dutch womanhood can be found here, in flat shoes(naturally) and fiddling with their smartphones and gossiping about goings on at a school which they don’t appear to spend much time at, as they are too busy hanging around Starbucks. I had a Caramel Latte that was more sickly sweet than Linda de Mol and Yolantha Sneijder put together. My advice is, avoid this place like a Dutch woman dodging a hair dryer.

Some people don’t like Starbucks but I am not one of them. Ever since I was in the first ever Starbuck in the Spring of 1989 at Pike Place Market in Seattle I have loved their coffees. So much better than what I was used to in the USA before there was a Starbucks so I am for ever grateful. This particular Starbucks in Beethovenstraat made me a delicious coffee and the girl who made it was very sweet. So good coffee in my neighborhood.

Love this location of Starbucks in Amsterdam. Really a good place to hang out and to relax. Local people come here instead of tourists. Love the furniture.

It’s Starbucks! It seems spacious for Amsterdam and the leather furniture is comfortable if its not too busy and you can find a seat. There’s some great seating by the window that looks out onto Beethovenstraat. Two hours of wifi and you are set to relax in comfort. Too bad I can’t use my Starbucks prepaid card that I got for my birthday and I’m not sure I can access the specials either so, minus one star for that. Otherwise it’s Starbucks as usual.

Average Starbucks, with friendly service. The drink menu isn’t quite as extensive as the States(at least in terms of Fraps), but their bakery looked like it was better. They have cakes! I didn’t try, so can’t comment on quality. I asked if I could pay from my phone(as I do at home with the app), and she had never heard of that. She also said they don’t have Starbucks reloadable cards like we do, so don’t try paying with one. Missed out on my Starbucks rewards stars for the week, but I think I’ll survive. :)

Coffee in Europe is an odd experience if you’re accustomed to drinking Starbucks. I drink Americano’s which are a simple drink and easy enough to make – the catch is I like to put half & half in them too. Your typical coffee shop in Amsterdam(and everywhere else) does not have half & half. They use evaporated milk instead which is really weird to me. Everywhere I’ve gone I’ve had to either drink my Americano black or put the evap milk in it and both of these scenarios didn’t make me happy. I had just purchased an Americano from a brightly lit, modern looking coffee shop. I opted to dump evap milk into my coffee because I wasn’t in the mood for black coffee and not two minutes after I hit the street with said coffee in hand did I stumble upon this Starbucks. And oh my gawd did the angels sing. I stepped in and was greeted at the door by a friendly local. Looking around I felt like I was entering some sort of elaborate underground restaurant – it was huge. It had multiple levels of tables and chairs… people scattered all around chatting, lounging, working on their computers, etc. I was so mesmerized it took me a good 20 minutes to actually get in line to order coffee. It was super busy, so I wasn’t out of there for a good 40 minutes, but that’s ok. When one is in heaven, one is bound to linger!

Spreading the wonderful news, since I had the opportunity to check out the new Starbucks store. South of Amsterdam finally gets it’s first real Starbucks, you will find more locals at this store as oppose to tourist which is a good thing for me, since I am a local in the community. So being the Starbucks lover that I am, you know I had to mozy on down there with my Dutchman yesterday to have a taste of their Chai Latte. I have been hitting up Starbucks for years… I was literally excited that they added a new store in the community. Starbucks lovers will be very impress with the new Starbucks on Beethoven Street. I loved everything about it! Plus Beethoven is one of my favorite streets to cruise on in Amsterdam, so it was a clear sign for me that Beethoven just got better. It has everything a LA girl wants or neeeds.
