Such a cute corner restaurant with great food and service. The service was outstanding and the food was pretty amazing as well.

Food is traditional and pretty decent. Located in the heart of the Museum district. Great for people watching so sit out in the screened and windowed in porch or outdoors on a nice day. Servers are quick witted and funny, yet helpful to those without a foundation in Dutch food.

This place has terrible food for an expensive price. Crab salad– 1⁄5. We ordered a salmon salad, but this came out anyway. So my buddy ate it. It was overly sweet, drowned in a thick sauce, and 14 Euros. Terrible. French onion soup– 2⁄5 they thickened it with cornstarch or something so that the broth was not a thin broth anymore. So salty I added bottled water to it. 7.5 Euros Pancake– 4⁄5 delicious banana pancake, but 9 Euros for a skinny pancake? Seriously? :/sad face. I was chastised by the server for asking if they have wifi since he likes his guests to actually have a conversation. While I get that, I’ve been on the road for 20 days with the same person 24⁄7. Sometimes you just don’t want to talk. Oh well, I read my national security papers instead. There’s only so much you can say sometimes. We ate outside, but the interior is dated and dingy. You know, goes back to the days of floral curtains and red velvet-colored carpet worn thin. Bill ended up 43 euros for some terrible food, a latte, and a Coke. Delicious is not how I would describe the experience They probably don’t have wifi just so you can’t check this place on Unilocal before eating here.

I’ve never eaten proper food here, but I don’t want to return. I’ve had coffee and a cake and the coffee was so terrible as to be basically undrinkable. And the atmosphere is rather cold and uncomfortable. We didn’t have any problems with the staff except that they weren’t super friendly, but that’s nothing new in Amsterdam ;-) To be fair I was only in the«coffee corner», so perhaps the restaurant is better.

These guys are super racist. Just got in with a group consisting small children(rainy day) and the first rude question from the guy at the door was whether we indeed went in to eat!!! Shame on you people.

Two kind, speedy women were working this neighborhood spot when we stopped for breakfast. Their coffee is strong and good. They have a full menu of baked goods, eggs, pancakes-just about anything one might want and all very good and freshly made. It’s located only a block or two from the Van Gogh museum so a great stop before or after a visit there. There’s seating indoors and out. It’s not at all fancy but for some reason I found it oddly endearing!

Cool breakfast place very close to Van Gogh museum. The waitress was very nice and spoke perfect English. The coffee was good and the breakfast was nothing special. If you are in the area and are looking for a very quick place to grab a bite, this would be a decent option.

Great spot for a coffee. Imagine this — you’ve been out shopping or strolling along the museumplein and you’re a bit in the mood for sitting down. You could try one of the very touristy options easily found along your route or you could drop by here. Because, while you would imagine a Small Talk to be jam packed with tourists, it’s actually as Dutch as it could get. The ladies behind the counter are really welcoming and will help you practice your Dutch sentences, with a chuckle, of course. The coffee and other warm beverages come out quick. I ordered a coffee verkeerd and it had lots of delicious milky foam on top. The teas were your stock brand but the water was hot . The best part — watching Amsterdammers and tourists go by. Surrounded by windows, Small Talk is perfect for people watching or for gathering motivation to shop some more. The seating is cozy and you’re sure to chat up some strangers as well, just like I did when I wished someone a good day in perfect Dutch! Great spot!

Had two breakfasts here. Food was top quality as was the service. Particularly good croissant. Cappuccino was very good and they have a unique brown table sugar. I’d recommend for Americans looking for casual food in this area.

A nice little coffee shop, very close to museum square and a great place to sit and enjoy watch the world go by. The coffee is nice and strong. Also, the up stairs space is pretty cool!

Initially I only gave this place two stars, but the last time I went it was actually very cosy with a beautiful street view from the second floor. Have to give another star for the good cappuccino :)

After a long visit to the Rijksmuseum we needed a coffee and found this very friendly corner café. Full of locals and tourists with an unusual upstairs wooden verandah, INSIDE. As we only had coffee I can’t comment on the food but, what I saw, it looked really good. Very interesting décor all around with the usual Tiffany lights and, chandeliers LOL

Near the Van Gogh museum. Stopped for coffee and an early morning breakfast. A bit rough around the edges, but food was good.

Yes, I had better places than this one. Several impressions in a quick round up: — the place looks like it hasn’t been touched for at least 40 years, old, used and yet not uncomfy — the waiters were recruited during the last touch up at least 40 years ago. They are as old as the place with the humor of the time. Some might find that funny, I found it somewhat disturbing and yet, they were kind and attentionate. — the food is basically of a brasserie, so you’ll find the entrecôte, the steak, the steak tartare, filet de dorade and some more exotic stuff. But all with a very dutch touch. Who would think of an Entrecôte with pepper sauce and vegetables? A Wiener Schnitzel with a Roquefort sauce? or the best, Chicken satay with bread and french fries? and yet, the food was ok. So all in all, I’ve seen and eaten better, but it was ok. The place is close to the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, PC Hooftstraat and so on, so if you’re around there and hungry, you can get worse in Amsterdam.

3.5 stars Ate here a few times and found it to be satisfactory. Enjoyed the croissants, cappys, dutch apple pie, and fresh-squeezed OJ in various combinations. Appeared to be open early and had a good selection. Not sure I’d recommend this place for large groups as it was on the smaller side, or you may want to call ahead and check on availability.

Quirky waitstaff(well… the one guy was, the others seemed normal), pricey food, nearby the museum campus. It has a weirdly old feeling and good food(best French Onion soup I’ve ever had).
