Great vinyl store for 2nd hand vinyl. It’s a bit of a hidden gem, not that visible from the street, and you’ve got to go down some windy stairs. However, they’ve got a good € 2 section of old vinyls. And to sweeten the deal, if you buy 6 it’s only € 10! I’m definitely going back to find more old school vinyl gems.

When was the last time you heard that a record shop EXPANDED into a second location on the same street, they just had that much business? Vinyl is back, and for proof just look at Record Friend. Ticking over for years off the beaten track to the east of the Red Light District, Record Friend has always been one of my favourite places to go in the city, but their recent expansion to a second location has massively improved already one of the must-visit locations in Amsterdam. The new space is dedicated entirely to new vinyl — if it’s out on the format, Record Friend almost certainly has it. The original space is now a dedicated second hand location and is such a pleasure to browse in for the additional space that removing new vinyl has created. An unequalled-in-Dam Pop & Rock section should make them popular on its own, but for me it’s the Jazz section that makes them worth coming to again and again — challenged only by Wax Well in this area. Special mention should also go to their Avant-Garde and Minimal section — very specialist but well stocked regardless. The only area I’ve ever been disappointed by is the Hip-Hop, which seems a little reliant on re-releases rather than OG wax. Go to Wax Well for that. If you’re in Amsterdam and you buy vinyl, you must visit Record Friend.
