I’ve been coming here for over a decade and while there was a time I’d have considered it amongst my favourite record shops in Amsterdam, I think the modern competition is giving it a serious run for its money. For one, it’s never changed in that entire decade. Everything is exactly the same as the first time I visited in 2004. Now obviously that’s just superficial, but on my most recent visit in particular I found the pricing to not be as competitive as elsewhere in the city — 7“s that are € 1 – 2 elsewhere are 3+ here, LPs are more likely to be over € 10 than not — and the stock feels a little lacking compared to places like Wax Well or Record Friend which also don’t specialise in genre but carry gems in all categories regardless. That said, there’s usually one or two things worth making the trip for but this year was the first time I left empty handed, whereas in other shops my eyes were bigger than my wallet. It’s high time for this place to have a little refurbish and a modernisation of it’s pricing structure/buying policy or risk becoming irrelevant.

Cool record shop ! Great variety an the € 1,– selectionmis sensational. Especially because the records are in top condition(not the covers, but that’s ok for € 1). Relaxed staff. Go there !

…i don’t want to share… …I don’t want to write, how great this place is… …it’s not just dirty, old, stale enough, vintage without the price tag. doesn’t have maybe-the-best-collection in town… …the owner isn’t the nicest guy… …i’m so a regular here… every saturday or sunday, when im in town, to dust of the new old records he gets in every week. Stay away! I don’t want you to come here… Not for old and older Jazz, Funk, Soul, Rock’n Roll, 78’s, expert advice from Jan him self on the best funk, soul and gospel, jazz and more. And he knows who-is-who-did-whome-with-what-else-in-what-way??? Damn you Unilocal,I love this place!
