Really good and fresh. We sat outside but the service were very good anyway. We were 6 persons but I believed that the food came out really quickly. For us that eat fish you got a lot of options, but the vegetarian options were quite boring. But everything was really good, we also tried veg. tempura — yum! You also got discount if you ordered over 10 euros per person. My food was 12 bites nigiri/maki and a beer for 16 euros.

This is probably the best-tasting sushi in Amsterdam. But it will cost you, and the service is slow and overly pompous(at least for my taste). I never doubt the quality in this place, however, and they’ve got a nice array of dishes to choose from, all of which(that I’ve tasted) are delicious and taste authentic. Another plus is that they’ve got quite a large space, and are able to accommodate groups quite well. The sake is good as well! It’s true that it gives off a pretty run-down vibe from the outside — you’d never guess it’s as good as it is — but I think that adds to the charm of the place, since you feel like you’re discovering a hidden treasure of Amsterdam.

The restaurant’s pretty big and the sushi here is on point. They also have a menu where certain items are 50% off if you dine in and it was pretty good, considering there weren’t many options. I enjoyed their handrolls and I thought their service was quick and efficient.

FINALLY. we arguably found the best Japanese restaurant in Amsterdam. This place met all our expectations so it deserves congratulations. We only wish we had visited this restaurant earlier rather than having to road test a bunch of terrible ones first. If you’re looking for some actual edible decent Japanese food, especially sushi this is where you go, don’t bother with the others. The interior was very cool and themed but not gaudily. It all tied in well with the vibe and ambiance of the restaurant. The service was semi prompt but we don’t need a hovercopter. They took our order and we didn’t see them again til the food was served or we wanted to order more drinks. After we arrived the place really started to fill up substantially until it was crowded with alot of standing patrons. We soon discovered alot of them were ordering take away, handy! We ordered mainly a helluva lot of nigiri, couple maki and hand sushi rolls, along with drinks. It all tasted delicious, for once, especially the kingfish nigiri. They had some sushi specials going on as well. In the end, the total cost was extremely reasonable and cheap considering the quality. If we had more time we would’ve found more time to return but can recommend this place easily.

This has to be my best sushi experience in Amsterdam… oh and I ate sushi last night too. The fish is fresh, miso is excellent. I like sashimi and nigiri, so I can’t tell you about the rolls. I gave it 4 stars only because of the service. The prices are reasonable too.

The office where I used to work was literally 3 doors down from Otaru. So the many times we have spend here during our lunch breaks eating away. Their special 40% discount offer during lunches was the first trigger to try Otaru. It took us a while to actually go in because from the outside it looks like a very bad quality restaurant and since sushi needs to be Fresh the restaurant needs to look the part. Finally we entered and discovered the special Sushi’s they had and my god… delicious…(even typing this I am starting to crave their rainbow roll). Now one very important note… the special rolls are not in the discount offer!!! So our bill in the end was a lot higher than anticipated, however this did not scare us away. The freshness of the food kept pulling us back.

I’m posting this review for my parents who do not have a Unilocal account, but had such a nasty experience we had to share. DONTGOHERETOEAT A MEAL! Absolutely the worst dining experience my wife and I had in the 7-days we visited Amsterdam. The sushi was old and smelled fishy!!!, when we complained the waiter said she was sorry but we could not return it to the kitchen. We were told to eat old sushi or nothing. The drinks were watered down and we wondered if they even put alcohol in our drinks or not. It was awful. Then to top off a bad experience we had our umbrella stolen from the rack outside the door where the owner made us leave it when we arrived in the rain. When we complained that our umbrella was stolen, the owner denied that we had an umbrella when we arrived or that she told us to leave it by the door. When we said she was lying, she threatened to call the police on us if did not immediately leave the restaurant. My wife and I had to leave in the rain without an umbrella. I personally believe the owner or an employee stole it to keep for themselves(a scam). If you do visit this restaurant keep your personal belonging with you and pay by cash not credit card.

Just had some take away from Otaru, sushi is okay, however we ordered a few nigiri and to my suprise we only got one piece per order(while I would expect two). So much for the take away discount!
