I was trepidatious about the c1000 becoming a Jumbo, because the c1000 had good deals and the Jumbo was just cheap and tawdry, and sold cheap stuff. I am pleasantly surprised by this Jumbo however, partly because it’s brand new and more modern than other Jumbos I’ve been to. They have state of the art LED lighting and the aisles are nice and wide, so even if there are shelf stackers putting things away in the aisles you can still maneuver easily past them. My second favorite parts of this store are the freezer section, because it’s huge and they carry Haagen-Dazs ice cream(just like the c1000 did, which is very important to me cuz it’s the only thing that will satisfy my pregnancy cravings), and the fact that if you buy brand name things here, like Dr. Oeteker products or biological meats packaged by an external vendor, you’ll get them at a good or really cheap price. The flip side of this is if you buy something that’s Jumbo brand, like Jumbo brand chicken cold cuts, or sour cream, it will taste not so good. So I recommend sticking with the name brand stuff and you’ll have a good time. The only exception to that rule is their Sour Cream and Onion potato chips. They taste just like American Sour Cream and Onion potato chips! They got the texture right and everything! They’re super salty, but dipping them in plain sour cream seems to cause an addictive reaction in my brain that makes it difficult to eat just one hundred. Their customer service is also pretty good. When my husband bought 2 plastic bags to carry his groceries and they broke just outside the store, he went back to complain and the customer service lady gave him a large sturdy bag for free. When I ran out of coins to get a shopping cart, the customer service desk gave me a token I could use to unlock a cart instead. Unlike the Albert Heijn tokens, these can be put in the grocery cart slot all the way without taking them off the keychain thing, so that makes them easier to carry around and have them with you for next time. I also like the scanner you can carry around with you and scan your own groceries as you put them in your grocery bag in your cart, so you don’t have to stand in line and put all your stuff on the belt to checkout, you can just pay and leave. I miss the American foods section that the c1000 used to have. Gone are the Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce, Butterfingers and cans of root beer. Go gently into the dark night, my sweet things. I also am not a big fan of their produce section, since they hardly have any biological fruit or vegetables. I was able to find popcorn kernels in their produce section, oddly enough, but they were not biological. :/If they could greatly increase their biological section then I would consider it to be a great super market. Also their diapers are kind of crap and tend to easily fall apart. As it is it’s great for stocking up on basic things, like name brand milk and juice boxes and beschuit, but for specialty items like frozen fruit and diapers and fresh fruit and veggies I prefer Albert Heijn or one of the many organic grocery stores in the area.

YAYC1000 is finally Jumbo! This location was the last one to become Jumbo so I was already getting anxious! Super organised, clean and they they always have bread(super imp!) The fruit and vegetables are taken care of very well, no bruises on your peach. The bananas are on a display that has a «mattress» for them for God’s sake. Awesome selection of non-dairy milks and healthy products too. The gluten-free section is not as well stocked as AH but they have great stuff, even fresh. They bought the whole area, c1000 and also the part where Rabobank used to be at the Brazillie Winkelcentrum, so the supermarket is huuuge! When it first opened I found some of the lines moved toooo slowly but they have a thing where the 4th in line doesn’t pay, so make sure to ask for your rights as a consumer. Great quality food, great staff, and did I say it’s super organised? Watch your back Albert Heijn!

Goodbye C1000, helloooo Jumbo! I don’t know why but when I first came to Amsterdam I had this impression that Jumbo wasn’t really a good supermarket. Boy oh boy, was I wrong! This new branch at Centrum Brazilië has got my heart from the moment I stepped inside. The store is big enough with very well organised and wide aisles, you can stroll around with a shopping cart with no problem at all. And there are so many options of everything! They even have Ovomaltine Crunchy(waaaaaay better than Nutella, I gotta say), a ~delicacy~ I found only in specific international stores at Leidseplein — but not anymore, yes! Oh, besides Ben&Jerry’s there are also Häagen-Dazs and Australia ice creams. Did someone say heaven? Jumbo’s own brand packaging is very clean and pretty, and the products themselves are quite good. Even though this supermarket is a 10min bike ride away from home, I find myself coming here frequently since its’ opening. The don’t offer a 100% self-checkout, but there are scanners and just a random 3 products verification before you leave. If you’re in the area, give it a try!
