Si, si, I know that Il Tramezzino is world-famous in Amsterdam for its tramezzini, triangular sandwiches constructed from two slices of soft bread with the crusts removed and filled with Italian culinary highlights, such as mortadella and olives, pollo e peperoni and — my favorite — mackerel, truffles and radicchio. But today I would like to draw your attention to its home-made savoury pies. Recently I got hooked on the torta salata featuring spinach, ricotta, raisins and toasted pine nuts. It’s the combination of salt and sweet that adds panache to this pie. If you’ve ever had Palermo’s trademark dish, pasta with wild fennel, sardines, raisins and pine nuts, you have experienced the same sensation — well sort of. It’s the kind of pie that shouts for a talk about the exquisite simplicity of Italian cuisine. Dare to indulge in some serious moments of la dolce far niente at this peaceful spot in the bustling Haarlemmerstraat. If needed, an espresso of one of the best and oldest Italian coffee brands, Caffè Vergnano, will bring you back to reality in a split second.

The sandwiches here hold a special place in my stomach for a quick and tasty snack. I’m top of that the people working there are always nice and greet you with a smile. The coffee is also great and comes from an amazing looking contraption. If you’re up for it and want to sit in with your meal they also have a variety of sparkling wines and beers. This is a cute little place to grab a quick midday snack.

Very good coffee. Tasty, well-prepared Italian pastries. Didn’t have a sandwich but they looked quite good.

This mini café consist of quite a few cute things. From Haarlemmerbuurt across Prinsengracht to Jordaan, most people drop by for a cup of take-away. They even designed their own bike coffee handles! Actually they also featured in panini. Fair price. Recommended for one or two people time kiling. And sweet girls, as Amsterdam always do.

By far the best coffee I have had in Amsterdam. The homemade cakes, friendly staff, and reasonable price make it a favorite haunt to read and relax on a rainy day. I go back again and again!

There could be more on their menu, sure, but I didn’t notice, this is what I came across: excellent coffee from this well crafted Italian style coffee maker, tasty types of sandwiches I have never seen before(Tramezzini particularly and Panini), mimosa. Yes, if a place has mimosa, that does it for me, I am going in. The modern like and hinting on sophisticated décor with very tasty food earns them 5 stars in this category. So I order a –Sgombre E Tartufo– tramezzini, what? you heard me. I’m not in the Kansas no more, matter a fact I don’t think I am in The Netherlands, I stepped into a remote part of Italy with those names. It looks like tuna fish sandwich but it’s Makreel, Truffle, Lime, Radicchio and a boiled egg. This isn’t no regular tuna fish sandwich at my local deli, it’s a better refined sandwich. It is very good, besides it’s basic sandwich looking appearance. And for only 2.95euros, if I were local, I’d be here at least once a week for what seems to be a basic sandwich shop. One cup of coffee and mimosa each please. I also order what looks to be a Egg Custard(Dan Tat), but NO! This isn’t one of those liquid fulled egg custards you find in Chinese bakeries, it’s a Pastel De Nata. It’s a different textured version. Actually I came across these before. The custard part isn’t as liquid, it’s more like the cream inside a Boston Cream, thicker, but with the same custard taste. The crust is crisp. I gotta try the other sandwiches if ever back. Or they also have full Appletaart, Boerencake, Citroencake, Chocolade Perencake cakes.

I‘m not much of a chain restaurant person, but I really liked the sandwiches at this shop. They had so many flavors, but my favorites were the smoked salmon or the chicken pesto. The décor is modern and simple with a lot of white and splashes of red. The prices were reasonable(2.95 Euro for half sandwich) and the coffee was terrific.
