This restaurant is an experience, an eclectic and interesting place. I got here with my friend by taking a tram and a local ferry. When you get there you realize that there is no hotel, only the name. If you are not a local most likely you are not going to this place since it is not easy to get to. They offer, «sail in movies» here as well in the weekends during the summer. Locals get by boat here and watch a movie. The food and service are excellent. I have tried beef tongue thinly sliced with gravy for an appetizer and it was delicious, a little rich but very nice. I also had steak with mashed potatoes, an elevated dish that was prepared perfectly. For dessert a typical Dutch dessert that consisted of a light chocolate mouse with roasted almonds and white creamy pudding sauce. The almonds added the crispy texture and it made it very nice. Before we left I was given a shot of local«moon shine» which was a pretty strong but I guess it help with digestion after a rich meal. A very nice new experience in Amsterdam.

Great find! Totally off the tourist path, but fum to take a ferry over and have a nice dinner here. Seating is inside in the car repair shop or outside on a picnic bench. It’s definitely a scene kind of place, but people of all ages are there. Expect to pay about EUR30. Fish soup, crab, and risotto were all nice. Not much on offer for vegetarians. Service a little slow, but friendly enough.

My Dutchie boyfriend took me here on our first date during my first visit to the Netherlands. I might have been drunk on romance, but I thought this place was very special — delicious food, tasty cocktails, fun atmosphere. Good for groups or dates. Overall a special experience that leaves you wanting more.

Stylish restaurant off the canals. Hard to get to — we got there by sloop. Was surprised to see there was no official dock … we had to tie up to random pole! Happy to see that it wasn’t washed away by the time we got back. I had the lamb shank and enjoyed it. Nice little selection of bottled craft beers too. Small selection on tap but good enough. Worth coming to if you’re in amsterdam. Especially if you have access to a sloop. If only for the wonderful talent that graces this establishment!

Place is sweet. A short ride on the ferry then a short bike ride and you’re in this crazy restuarant. Feels like Brooklyn in a good way. Also the food was redick. So good. Very interesting place for sure. It’s in a big warehouse with cool old cars up on lifts and stuff. All the staff are very attractive and hot and hunky. Nice mix of people there too. Glass of wine was crazy cheap compared to the U.S. Great vegetarian options too. Go here.

I know I know… With all the good reviews and pretty good pictures, I’m sure you are wondering why this one only gave it three stars. Well, let me tell you why. Getting to the point right away — the food looks really pretty and it’s not bad to taste but I have to confess it’s average and mediocre. Doesn’t live up to its looks or reputation. We saw the menu and the food on others tables and we were all so excited that we ordered a little too much. So, we got the oysters; they were good but we asked the waiter where they were from and he had to go ask somebody else who had to go ask somebody else and finally after an hour into the meal, the server told us where they were from. I wana know what I’m eating before I eat it — just saying. We also had the crab with avocado where the crab was too bland and stringy, the fish was tad too oily and we didn’t order the dessert bcoz the waiter never showed up to our table after our main course. So, I think you already get the picture about the service. I’m used to it but this place was quite disappointing. We went here on a hot day and they had all the shutter/doors closed. Even after we asked them to open them just a bit for air– they completely ignored us and finally when I couldn’t take the heat, I asked the waiter again and he responded quite rudely. The ambience is quite cool and industrial but the place can get hot due to the high ceilings and no windows. The prices are reasonable. They have a good wine list. Will I go here again — No. Why? With so many options in Amsterdam, I wouldn’t go back to an average food, bad service, difficult to get to(15 mins walk after ferry to noord).

Can someone help me make a reservation? I called the number and there was no answer, and no answering machine. I cannot find an email either. Thanks, L

Old garage transformed into a cool restaurant. Location and view, on the water overlooking Amsterdam, is great. Service was good, we were told we should reserve although we got a table. Food was average, without great taste and pricey for the experience. Would I go again for the food? No. Would I go again for the great view and cool outset? Probably yes.

Beautiful spot. Really cool, airy, modern. It’s an old garage — which is just rad. The service was really good. Attentive, friendly. The food — yummy. For a special dinner — this is a nice spot. A bit noisy and busy, but that makes it sort of charming as well. Nice views!

I was in Amsterdam meeting a local with a bunch of friends and he showed us around so we anyhow ended up at this place. Even the way to this place is great, but when you arrive, you feel at the end of A’dam: across the river, there is the town while you are surrounded by industry. So this makes it already special, it is not a typical pass-by-location nor one you find easily, but it takes it out of the lonely planet-range :) First, we had a beer at the riverside, which was pleasant due to the calmness of the surroundings and the silently flowing river. After finished our glasses, we were seated at a long table. The restaurant is like a hall with lots of big tables, where several people sit close to each other. So, if you look for a more silent restaurant to discuss something in private, this will not be the first choice. Although, it has never been very loud or even noisy. I ordered the beef which was very good. Two slices of beef which were cooked the way I like. Also, the wine was delicious and the desert, gosh, how I regret not ordered that chocolate mousse! all in all a very good location, staff is friendly, food is good. Having a good evening with friends, this should not be missed!

Really really beautiful place and food. A little out of the way, and the place is not cozy but kind of mod and airy, but we loved it. Food was incredible.

Incredible place — it’s a can’t miss experience off the beaten path of Amsterdam. It’s a bit tricky to get to — ferry to noord + 2 km walk/bike, but worth it. It’s hands-down one of the best decorated restaurants that I’ve ever been to. The building is an old ship factory next to the river het ij and the owners gutted it and remodeled the inside from scratch. When you enter, if the beautiful concrete-top brick based bar doesn’t catch your eye, the unique 5m chandelier hanging from the ceiling, or the car suspended on the lift, or the open kitchen should do the trip. In the summer — they open the huge doors and inside becomes outside. Top. The food is actually reasonably priced. Great, seasonal, modern menu. They don’t disappoint with the food. Wine selection is nice. Service is really good. They have a large back room for private events. If going during a prime time — make sure to get reservations. Go up noord and escape the city for dinner– the hustle and bustle will be waiting for you at the end of the night.

The only reason this place is «secret» is because it is so poorly located. If you don’t have a bike, you’re pretty much out of luck, unless you want to walk a few km from a bus stop(doable, but not always preferred). Pretty pricey too, but the food is great so it may be worth it. It’s essentially an old warehouse, so it’s huge — plenty of room, great for groups(if everyone wants to trek there and pay up). Hip and trendy atmosphere with fancy food, it’s perfect for a special occasion, but I won’t be going there for any other reason. In the summer I hear there’s a nice view when they open the front doors, but I haven’t witnessed it yet.

Little did my mother know, when my sister invited her to Hotel de Goudfazant for her 60th birthday dinner, that my brother had flown in from Sweden and I from the United States to surprise her. We arrived early to make sure we got there first, which is how I found some time to wander around this old garage-turned-restaurant and discover that it is, in fact, named after a song by my favorite singer Jacques Brel! Once I got over my excitement about the Brel reference though(which went no further than the name, as the place doesn’t suit the reference whatsoever), I felt a little bit disillusioned. De Goudfazant seems to be a bit of a celebrity-spotting site. We saw a number of TV personalities and famous journalists during our dinner here. However, I found the atmosphere a little cold and barren to be honest. Large empty space, rows of tables that look a bit like someone just set up a catering lunch in an empty building. In the back space long tables were set up for an enormous party. Made me feel a little like I was at a chuck-e-cheese’s or a bowling alley for a huge kids party. They haven’t done a whole lot with the theme of a reused old garage. Don’t get me wrong, I actually love repurposed industrial spaces, huge fan, but precisely because of that I’ve seen a lot of them, in different countries, and this one is not up to par. The food was good but not particularly innovative. Nor sure I’d come back all the way here to eat when there are much better restaurants in town. The main attraction of De Goudfazant, as far as I can tell, is that it’s hard to find, which makes people feel like it’s ‘exclusive’, which Dutch people love. Overall I feel like this place is more hype than substance. It’s a decent restaurant, but it will be forgotten within a few years.

Well… FANTASTIC!!! Amsterdam Noord is definitely IN!!! Hipster, essential, less pricey than the centre and well… in this case GREATFOOD! The restaurant is hosted in an unexpected place… a car garage. Not a fancy interior remade place… a real car garage… there also a great Ferrari Testarossa parked in one of the mechanics cranes :) Now the food! Short menu, fancy to the right point… with a rustic touch and elegant taste(can taste be elegant… ohhh… yes !! :) I had the young chicken which was just perfectly roasted with a mild/spicy curry crust… perfectly baked potatoes served of course with mayo, green beans and an interesting apple /rhubarb jam… delish. My friend took a great dish of gnocchi di semolino alla romana(Goudfazant version) with sheep roasted cheese… wow!!! Beer or whine. you decide… the whine carte is very very nice. Dessert… yesssss… come to me. Great lemon cake served with a very interesting pistacchio pannacotta. Coffee and we are good!!! I was definitely taken from the food and the environment. Top notch service… friendly, professional and interested in make you feel good. It is a crowded place… call to reserve… and get a map to get there or you get lost :) Free WiFi… ask for the password.

After moving to Noord from NYC, we came with high standards for food, atmosphere and value. We are so grateful to have De Goudfazant in the neighborhood! In a land where the service lacks so often, Niels(the owner who often hosts) makes sure you are taken care of with a smile. The food is interesting yet also comfort food and the quality is high and consistent. My favorite is the Poussin(small chicken). Because De Goudfazant combines quality, atmosphere, location and value, it’s our nr. 1 choice in Amsterdam.

Hands down one of the best restaurants in Amsterdam. Hard to get there but most certainly worth the trip. At a ’ underground’ location you will be served one of the best value for money menu’s of Amsterdam. My compliments for the owners and staff for their service and constant level of excellent cooking. I can speak from my own experience when I say that no matter if you are with two or twenty persons for dinner, they manage to serve dinner at a excellent level. The menu is not Michelin material(thank god it isnt) but tasty, fresh and local ingredients which are prepared seasoned with taste and well proportioned. You choose from a three course menu for about 30 euro. For that price, you will have one of the best dinners in Amsterdam.

If you can find it, you’ll love it! One more pearl in Amsterdam-Noord. Please keep this one to yourself ;-) The drinks are quite cheap, I think it’s 1,80 for a bottle of beer, but please chose wine here ;-), the food is great! You can chose from several starters, main courses and desserts. EUR8,50, EUR17,00, EUR7,50, or you chose the meal deal for EUR30,50. Go for the lobster, you pay an extra of EUR7,50 but I think it’s worth it. The ambiance is unique in this place and not for sissy’s, hceap furniture in an old factory hall decorated loft style well go see for yourself. Reservation definitely recommended!
