I got my hair cut by Maria, cuz she seemed like the nicest person based on her photo on the website. I know it’s not an objective criterium, but it worked out for me. She helped me get away from my housewife hair rut with some well-advised hair products and interesting layers, and the offer to make me look more artsy with some french-word-I-can’t-remember blonde and red highlights. I haven’t returned for the highlights yet, but I think I’ll try them out in the spring. I really liked how she listened to me and figured out what I needed without judging me for being old and frumpy, which is how I usually feel in fancy hair salons. The atmosphere in the salon is trendy, but not oppressively so. They bring you super high-end bio-organic-save-the-rainforest-and-cure-world-hunger-tea and a little biscuit, and the tea cup is actually reachable while your hair is being cut, so that’s nice. And the mirrors are only from the chest up, so you don’t have to watch your big belly roll out while sitting in the usually awkward hair cutting chair angle. And they have a biiiig bowl of marshmallows in the waiting area, which look light and fluffy but they will sit in your stomach like a brick if you happen to eat 8 of them because they beckon you to eat ‘just one more’. I did not know this. Haircut prices are about average for trendy Amsterdam salons, and they sell pretty high-end hair products from Redkin and Shu Uemura. They’re expensive but worth it, in my opinion. They don’t push the products on you either, which is nice. And you get one free bang trim with every haircut. I originally came here because it was across the street from my husband’s work, so it would be easy for me to drop the baby off with him while I got my hair cut over lunchtime, but I think I’ll stick with them for awhile.

I just visited this salon for the first time for highlights. While I’m happy with the results, I don’t think I’ll be returning for a few reasons. First, I was never told who my colorist would be when I booked my appt. on the phone, thus it made me feel a bit like whoever happened to be at the salon that day and free would just do my hair on the fly. I never received a confirmation call or text regarding my appt.(every other salon on the planet confirms via text, call, etc.). Like I said, I’m happy with the results, but the total was about 60 Euros MORE than I had expected after reviewing the prices I saw listed on their website for their services(there are 60 Euros on my bill that are not for highlights… so I’m left to believe that they are charging 60 Euros for toner and blowdry!). Further, since they are affiliated with Redken, they do push product purchase pretty hard. All in all, I estimate that it was about 2 times the price I was paying at Toni & Guy for the same services, and the staff here was not as professional as at Toni & Guy.
