I love a casual wander down a dodgy market. Not soo far away from the Lewisham or south London markets… Wander down to the bottom of the market for the best deals — things tend to be a good Euro or more cheaper down that end. There’s also an amazing tea/herb/alternative health shop in the middle of the market you could browse for ages. Lovely for a casual walk.

This is an average market that was close to the Heineken experience so I stopped by. It had a few too many clothing shops for my tastes but they did have some awesome fresh squeezed juices that I really enjoyed. I also tried the stroopwaffle for the first time which was alright. The mini pancakes covered in powdered sugar were great though.

This is an average European farmer’s market, just tack on the high prices. I made the mistake of paying 2 euros for a fresh stroopwaffel which wasn’t nearly as good as the ones from Albet Heijn.

Average farmer’s market/street market. Stands sell fruit, dried fruit and nuts, veggie, flower, clothing, shoes, stockings, knockoff bags and watches, miscellaneous household goods. A little pricy for most items and the quality was definitely less-than-average. Flowers are larger, cheaper and more beautiful at the Bloemenmarkt. You’ll find better quality items scouring sales racks at regular stores on Kalverstraat than buying the clothing and accessories here. Fruits and veggies are decent but it’d be a lot more convenient to get at the supermarket instead of traveling here because it’s so far from the city center.

Good market, but most vendors had high prices – on average, about 30 euros for a dress or skirt. The highlight of this market was the yogurt smoothie drinks that were made with fresh fruits. If you want cheap market prices, try Dappermarket. It’s a long haul from Centrum but less touristy and with friendlier prices.

One of the better markets in Amsterdam, although a bit far from Central Station. If you’re only here for a few days, you might be better off heading to Dappermarket or Waterlooplein Market. Lots of exactly what you might expect from a Dutch market — tons of clothes, a few cheese shops, a few random stalls selling bathroom stuff(Sonicare brush heads, shaving cream, shampoo), and all kinds of street food. If you’re a street food lover(like me) than you absolutely must try the fruit-yogurt smoothies. You’ll see a variety of them out on a bed of ice. Every single one of them is delicious. Also, I LOVE the fried fish nuggets that they have at all of the Dutch markets in town. All in all, a great market away from the bustle of weekend tourists. The party gets started around 930 am every day.
