Green Grill & BBQ

I was really, really pleasantly surprised by this place.
I went for dinner with friends last night and we decided to get the chef’s appetizer platter for three, followed by the mixed seafood platter and some grilled veggies. With the appetizer platter we were expecting the usual — some olives, some cheese and meats, probably some fried stuff… what came out was a beautiful three course appetizer platter with what I can only describe as a bruschetta flatbread Turkish style, some meats, mussels, clams, seaweed salad and more. I would only say that two of the «courses» repeated a bit — lots of mussels and flatbread, but we didn’t mind since it was so tasty. The seafood platter had more mussels but also razor clams, prawns and more seaweed salad. The mussels were cooked in a tomato garlic sauce that we all remarked was unusual but very good. The grilled veggies included aspargus, mini eggplants and fennel and were beautifully done. For three of us plus a child with alcohol it was 120 euros which we thought was reasonable given that it was seafood.
I try not to make a habit of eating around Leidseplein but when you need some food and want to people watch this is a great option.

This was a good spot in the Leidesplein to people watch and get a glimpse of what was going on in the nearby music bars to make a decision on which one (if any) to venue into. The table service was good and pleasant and the selection of beers, wines and cocktails were good also including Brouwerij which is a great local beer. This was open until at least 2am on Saturday nights/​Sunday morning.

I had the most AMAZING Caesar Salad with Chicken. It was so delicious and the presentation was awesome. I live in America and the server told me when I ordered that the salad would not be presented like that with which I am familiar but that it is delicious. I AM SOOOO GLAD I believed her. She was so right!!! The chicken was juicy and was seasoned just right. The flavors were so delicious that I didn’t need the dressing. TRUST ME! You want to try this salad. Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm. :0)

Outstanding service by our waiter, John. Food was fantastic. Cooked to order and the taste of the food was present and not over shadowed by sauces or spices.
Highly recommend.

Terrific mixed grill. Ribs, chicken, hamburger and lamb chops with fresh bread and vegetables. On the second floor overlooking the plaza with Carol King singing in the background.
Service was nice and quick although I did show up right before opening.
Meat was very tender and tasted great.

I am an easy grader so why the hell not 5 stars? Well… I am also rather cheap.
Let’s start with the good:
The food. I had the mixed grill — a plate of lamb, beef, chicken and ground beef plus grilled vegetables. all taste and well cooked.
The restaurant is upstairs and you have a nice view of the Leidseplein square down below and I like the interior. Everything is cooked with the big green egg (hence the name) and it was really tasty. They also serve the Brouwerij ‘t IJ IPA beer which I became a fan of.
Service was very friendly, and reasonably fast (I was not in a hurry).
So the prices are on the high side (we spend about 40 € per person for food and a couple of drinks) which puts me off a little, but if your in town and look for a good meal then by all means: go here.
