Had a wonderful experience here. Martijn listened to exactly what I wanted and delivered a great haircut. He’s also a fun personality, if you’re looking for good conversation. His mom helps out around the shop on occasion, which gives the shop a lovely, welcoming vibe. Reasonably priced too for Amsterdam! Will come again. :)

I’ve been sending my boyfriend to Martijn Fraaij for haircuts for 2 months now, and he has had somewhat mixed experiences. He has had the same haircut — short with a bit of length at the top — for maybe 10 years now. It’s a pretty basic, standard haircut. While he has always received good haircuts at the salon, sometimes the experience was a bit lacking. The stylist who was filling in for Martijn Fraaij was fantastic and really took the time to understand what my boyfriend wanted and cut accordingly. Martijn Fraaij himself has been a bit of a let down. Although he’s very quick and skillful with the scissors, he doesn’t seem to really care about the customer. He didn’t really listen to my boyfriend’s explanation of what he wanted. He was also done in 10 min. I noticed that the sides were a bit patchy, and I’m not even a pro! I expected more from the salon owner himself. A man’s haircut here costs 25EUR, which is mid-range for Amsterdam. For the level of care and attention received, I’m not sure if it’s really worth it.

Got a males haircut and they did a very nice job. Scheduled an appointment and they have friendly service that speaks English well, which was a major plus for me(my Dutch is awful, and I like to have conversations). Very reasonably priced(25 € for a male cut) and well done.

Men’s and women’s haircuts are two different things entirely. In my opinion we both want a haircut worthy of the money we spend and the time we invest into it. It’s entirely a personal thing when you place your looks in the hands of a stranger all the while hoping and trusting them to make you look good or better at a reasonable price without too much fussing about, don’t you think? Still it seems it’s mostly a crap shoot especially if you don’t know the person cutting your hair. You have to take the plunge and be ready to accept what you get because there ain’t no going back after. LOL. The bottom line is you like it or you don’t. If you do, you go back. If you don’t, you politely pay up and go find someone else to cut your hair. A lot of times you tell the cutter/stylist what you want and you either get it or you get something else. The something else is hard to explain but we all know what it is. It ain’t what you asked for! I got close to what I asked for here regardless of every time it shocks me to look in the mirror after they’re done. It was a pleasant experience after all and that we know counts big time. So I’ll go back. They take walk ins but they prefer you make an appointment. For a men’s haircut in Amsterdam, 25 euro was/is a good price.
