I’d give it 3.5, but the fact that it’s organic pushes it to 4 stars. I had a quiche/salad combo, both were tasty. A little bit pricey, but you pay for quality ingredients. Seems like a good mix of natural foods.

A black banana is a good banana.’ That’s what my Dutch-Indonesian mother used to say when she was making pisang goreng(fried bananas). She shares this love for over-ripe bananas with Michael and Catelijne, the happy go lucky-owners of Deli-Caat. That’s one of the reasons their home-made banana bread is a must-eat. It’s sweet, pure and exotic — thanks to the bits of coconut. It’s just so, eh, ‘banana’. Thank god the two left their office jobs to start Deli-Caat last year. This place where affordable organic and local food reigns has it all. There’s a bakery where the two make quiches, pizza, carrot cake and super duper madeleines. Fruit, veggies and wine are for sale in the mini market. In the back you can have a cup of local White Label Coffee, together with sandwiches(mozzarella, smoked free-range chicken). Don’t bother to cook yourself, just bring a healthy meal back home. There may be a touch of Ottolenghi on the weekly changing menu, something Indonesian or something Tuscan. Michael and Catelijne cook around the clock and around the world.

Jan Eef is starting to lose its dread with more and more nice places replacing greasy snackbars and other shops from the last century. One of these new stars is deli-caat. OK, it’s not actually at Jan Evertsenstraat but 5 steps off. You like cooking with fresh organic ingredients? Deli-caat isn’t only a delicatessen eetwinkel but also a small organic food shop. On the lower level in the back of the room you find fresh fruit and veggies as well as a fine selection of quality products. You don’t like cooking? But fancy a tasty dish made with love and organic ingredients? Deli-caat isn’t only an small organic food shop but also a delicatessen eetwinkel. The decent menu contains a choice of freshly home-made goodies like quiches, broodjes, pizza etc. Next to that there’s a daily changing great value for money dinner menu(between € 5 and € 8). The owners and their team are very friendly and welcoming. Since I know this place I now have an excuse to drop by Jan Eef more frequently.
