Slow down. Take a deep breath. Enjoy the scenery. If you’re in a hurry, then De Wereldbol is not for you. There is but one person in the kitchen(the chef /owner) and one more waiting on all of the tables — both inside and waterside. So again — this place is not for those who intend to wolf their food and leave. We were fortunate enough to acquire lodging on a houseboat in Amsterdam, on KNSM Island… and even more fortunate to find De Wereldbol on our stroll back to the boat one evening. We were both tired(if you’ve been to Amsterdam, you know that it is just small enough to make you think that you can walk everywhere), and we were hungry. There was something about De Wereldbol that made us give it a try — and I’m glad we did! My sweetheart opted for a couple of appetizers — the Pumpkin Soup and the Smoked Salmon Salad(both very tasty, I might add!). I opted for the Grilled Albacore Steak with leafy greens… and it was done to perfection. An interesting note — in a more upscale place like this — especially where the chef prides himself on regularly changing the menu according to what fresh ingredients he can get — the side that came with my tuna was french fries!(Okay, they were ‘frites,’ with that extraordinary garlic-mayo sauce that is so popular in The Netherlands, but… wow.) I’m not complaining, mind you, because the flavors worked! If you go, be sure to ask about their wine selection. It is the chef’s other pride, and I’m certain he can help you select the perfect complement to your meal!
