Fantastic meal here in Amsterdam last weekend! 4.5 review but rounding up for the great atmosphere and value. We started with the duck confit with sourdough and the beef carpaccio. Both were delicious. For mains I had the spare ribs and J had the cod. Both were beautifully presented and the portions were huge. My ribs had a lovely Asian marinade and J’s COD was wonderful. My only regret is that we didn’t order dessert. Excellent food and even better prices. Will return!

Authentic and cozy, with some of the best food around. This is EXACTLY the type of restaurant I was looking for in Amsterdam — a little off the beaten path with a diverse menu, outdoor seating, and is so hip without even trying. Spying an empty table outside, my girlfriend and I were treated to an excellent meal. Our waitress spoke excellent English and offered several suggestions on the menu. I’m kicking myself for not taking a picture of the menu to remind me of the names of the dishes. The entrees are pricey, so my girlfriend and I decided to order some appetizers to split. We ordered three — one had shredded octopus, another was fries with a delicious dipping sauce, and we ordered a tender and juicy pork dish. It was all excellent, and if we had stayed longer in Amsterdam we definitely would’ve come back for a real dinner. Overall, of all the restaurants we ate at in Amsterdam, this was the nicest one with some of the best food we had in the highly competitive restaurant market. Come during an off time and be willing to spend a little more — you won’t regret it.

Food is a five, service was a 3 – 4. Lovely atmosphere and truly our food was exquisite — we shared an appetizer of pork belly, avocado with tomato compote on crisps — yum! Followed by the lamb loin with gorgeous deep brown gravy and mashed potatoes with a sprinkling of fresh green sprouts. Enjoyed a few drinks and a lively time! Bartender was super kind and attentive as well — warm thanks for a lovely evening!

Great location, off a quieter street and with cozy lighting and seating. Get there early for dinner as it get packed before 8. When it’s packed the staff is a bit slow/overwhelmed but generally very nice and attentive. The ribs were huge and to die for, and they were really accommodating to my friend who was on a diet and asked for veggies and sauce on the side

Place was packed !! Other than the fact that we got stuck at the table next to everyone in the back room’s ass/walkway, we had great food and good experience. Would go back… I had the mussels which were the special on the blackboard and my man had a steak… GREATFRIES. mussels were delish.

Well, I have to confess that I’m a Texan, so when I saw the spare ribs on the menu, I had to try. You get a HUGE portion for this specific dish. It was tasty, cooked very well, had great presentation, and even some freshly sauted veggies hiding underneath all of the meat. We definitely will be back to try some of the other items on the menu. The deserts were fantastic as well — good wine selection and had coffees and teas available. The feeling of the place was less touristy(thank goodness) and more of a local place with local people. Located in the Jordaan area and just down the street from our rental flat — we will be back!

Quite a nice place to visit and eat in it. The clams were great. Also you should ask for the special of the day and usually it’s good. Try the steaks there too. Enjoy

My main regret is that we didn’t try this restaurant earlier, otherwise we would have come here twice this week! Excellent bistro/brasserie type food. Everything was excellent. We actually arrived half an hour before the kitchen opened for dinner, but the nice bartender said, «it’s not too early for a drink, please sit down!» We had the breaded brie with eggplant purée which was excellent. I had the veal ribeye steak, also excellent. And, my wife had the goat cheese soufflé, which she really liked. We shared the coconut parfait for dessert, which was also quite excellent. As you can tell, I was very happy with De Rieger. I would highly recommend this spot. It’s in a quiet, quaint section of Amsterdam. Oh, and there was a cute neighborhood kitty that also frequents the place.

De Reiger is a delicious spot for a meal. It’s a lovely restaurant with a real bistro feel on a beautiful, quiet street. We sat by a window and loved watching everyone leisurely bike by. The food was also excellent. We started with the mint and pea soup, which was rich and tasty and filled with«Dutch shrimp,» which were the tiniest shrimp I’ve ever seen. Yet, they were packed with flavor, which surprised us. For entrees, we had the spare ribs and the sea bass special. The spare ribs were crispy and perfectly paired with fries, some vegetables and a garlic sauce. The portion was absolutely enormous. The sea bass was also excellent and consisted of two large pieces of fish served over tagliatelle in a saffron sauce with root vegetables. The restaurant staff was relaxed and friendly and we loved our experience at De Reiger.

This felt like a very authentic Amsterdam dining experience. We sat at the bar for about 15 minutes before we could get a table at about 8 pm. We each ordered spareribs, and realized when they arrived at the table that we could have easily split the huge serving of ribs. We had the house merlot, which was round and smooth as promised. It was available by the glass, carafe or bottle, all at very reasonable prices. The serving staff was very busy, but still personable and great with English. The café looks its age. A resident cat made itself at home among the guests. I was very happy with the entire experience. I gave just 4 stars because my husband did not like the ribs as much as I did, and because the waiter did not caution us that we didn’t really need two orders.

Decent food, nice ambiance, great staff. It’s a very cozy place in the Jordaan with a very laid-back, dark and romantic vibe. The main courses are all delicious, but I had a few truly horrendous starters. Not sure what’s going on with that. Might give it another shot in the future and see if it improves…

Located on one of the main streets leading into the Jordaan I took some visitors from out of town here because they fancied a plate of ribs for dinner and this place rates high for a tasty plate of the best ribs in the area. From the outside the place looks much larger than the much smaller place that greets you when you go in. It’s a gezellig little café with good food, a full bar and a nice selection of beers and wines. Theres a chalkboard full of daily/nightly specials to choose from and a fairly simple main menu. The service was friendly and attentive being served by several people to keep us properly maintained with food and drink. We ordered two plates of ribs for the three of us. My dinner companions shared a plate. They serve a very generous serving of ribs, two layers worth, with a small serving of vegetables underneath along with a side of french fries. The vegetables were mushrooms, zucchini and onions. The fries were hot, crispy the way I like, hot and steamy inside, with a container of mayonnaise to dip them in. The ribs were tender, moist and delicious and flavorful. Being finger food and somewhat messy they’re served along with a finger bowl, a very nice touch, much appreciated as you could quickly rinse your fingers should they become too sticky rather than just wipe them on your napkin. Thumbs up on the ribs. Worthy of multiple trips and highly recommended. They’re also dog friendly.

Was invited here by some friends and had a look at the reviews, so it sounded promising. It was great! The reviews are correct = the ribs are *seriously* good… I’m not even a huge fan of ribs, but want to come back for more soon. Also tried the steak and it was very thick and tasty, with pepper sauce and actually done«medium» as asked, which is «rare» here… you also get chips/fries and they are the thick, nice, tasty ones. The service was really very good and friendly, always a plus in Amsterdam restaurants. We were lucky and there wasn’t a wait that night — plenty of tables to choose from. We decided to sit outside and I would recommend not sitting at the furthest-away table by the flowers, as during our meal, we were terrorised by a hungry wasp. Otherwise, it’s nice sitting outside if the weather’s OK as you can soak in the ambience of the neighbourhood(though if cars and bicycles zipping past you by just a ½-meter away while you’re eating bothers you, best sit indoors). We finished our wine inside after the meal to get away from the evil wasp — it’s a nice brown café, so has a nice bar area in addition to the dining area. I suppose we were lucky that it wasn’t that busy, so everything was fine for us, but if it was packed, I can imagine you’d need to be patient. So, great food, great service, decent prices … what’s not like to like?(oh yeah, the wasp, but I don’t think it works there)…

One of our better meals and experiences when in Amsterdam. From the lovely décor, great service and fantastic food I would eat here more than once when on a holiday in Amsterdam.

«Nice atmosphere, food not worth the wait…» Decent food. RIDICULOUSLY long wait for entrees– Nearly an hour. Coffee 20 mins. Service. Meh. It wasn’t horrible, but I probably won’t go back.

Cozy and quaint. Perfect first meal in Amsterdam after a long day of travel. The women who run the place are so nice and welcoming. They translated the menu specials for me, recommended a local beer and a great dessert. Everything was delicious and comforting.

The restaurant’s signature ribs are a must-order — they are out of this world — savory, well-marinated, and tender. I felt sort of disgusting dipping the ribs into the mayo on the side(the ribs are definitely tasty enough alone but for that extra mile, dip them in mayo every now and then)… it was so delicious though! Great beer selection and the bartender(who I think is the manager of the whole restaurant — interesting division of labor) was very funny and gave us a great beer recommendation. The salad was fresh, but nothing attention-grabbing, and I thought the mushroom ravioli was a little too doughy. But I would definitely go back for the ribs and beer if I’m ever in Amsterdam again. The service is quick and the atmosphere is relaxed and pub-like. Although it was recommended in a guidebook, it didn’t feel touristy at all — heard Dutch all around me!

De Reiger was recommended to us by the owner of the B&B we were staying at. Boy were we glad we asked her where to eat! I went on a 3.5 week long vacation all over Europe and the dinner at De Reiger was definitely one of the best meals I had during the trip. This is mainly due to the delicious, fall-off-the-bone SPARERIBS. You get a generous serving of ribs so this dish is great for sharing. I also enjoyed the side of perfectly fried french fries that came with mayo. We also had a light beer that went well with the heaviness of the meal. I can’t stop thinking about those mouth watering, perfectly done spare ribs. Order them, consume them, enjoy.
