I have a friend on the other side of town and we meet here for lunch every single time, because it convenient, but mainly because we love it. De Pont’s own dark bread is fluffy and beautiful and any choice of topping is good. Eggs benedict with salmon; smoked mackerel; chicken with a pepper marinade. I’m not too impressed with the house wine and service can be a bit slow, but the location is good. Especially with the sun out, you can watch people on bicycles, scooters and on foot get on and off the ferry. And if you’ve finished the bread and want to stay awhile, have some cake, too. PS: Tourists will probably be terrified of the very steep stairs going up to the ladies’. Considering a quaint Amsterdam attraction.

It’s not often I write two star reviews. I’ve been at De Pont three times. Previous thoughts were reinforced by today’s visit. 1) Overpriced 2) Slow(half hour wait for lunch today 3) With drinks the tab price was higher than the menu price. The excuse that I got a large drink was bogus as for Tap Chouffe there is one size glass. Tab was corrected but I seriously doubt this will be corrected in the computer. Buyer(Tourist) beware. Both the Chouffe and Texel tap beers tasted stale. Better alternatives nearby folks.

This was a great experience. Great food and very reasonable prices. Situated at the northern landing site of the free ferry service across the river Iy it is surrounded by glass wind screens that shelter you from any cool April breezes. You are constantly entertained by the hundreds of ferry travellers that rush on and off the ferries every 3 minutes. The sun shone on us that afternoon and we took the ferry especially to eat at this café. We were perhaps a little put off by some of the negative comments made by other reviewers and some of their complaints were valid in certain circumstances. For example the table service is not what I would call«urgent» but then we were in no hurry and found the service more than adequate. The food was excellent with a super open chicken-salad and cucumber sandwich costing only about € 6 and a toasted ham & cheese ciabatta € 4. In the sunshine and outdoors we found the local pints of Grolsh pilsner lager to be so good as to be dangerous. If we had not had to make our flights home that evening I would have had to be helped back onto a ferry. I would almost consider going back to Amsterdam just to visit this eatery again.

This is a great spot to get some work done on your laptop, although a bit louder than the library or a Starbucks. The interior is spacious, somewhat ‘divey’, and is very brightly lit with natural light. The windows have views for the Ij as well as the EYE. When the weather is nice, you can enjoy one of the dozens of picnic tables outside on either sides of the building. This means that De Pont is great for groups! I didn’t have food here, but the cappuccino was good, although the accompanying cookie wasn’t fresh, but I wouldn’t judge them for that.

I can be really short about this one Only, and I mean ONLY, when the sun is shining and you feel like watching a lot of people walk by from the Pont. Then go there. Bad coffee en mediocre food for absolutely ridiculous prizes. But then again, the view is excellent!
