Ein sehr spaciger Coffeeshop mit gemütlichem Ambiente! Jedoch ist meistens ziemlich viel los, deshalb sollte man um die Mittagszeit oder am frühen Nachmittag kommen, um einen Platz zu bekommen.

Sweet staff. Big coffee shop with plenty seating. Product is quality and prices are comparable to all the other coffee shops in the area. tranquil setup and design. good music too. I’m happy I came across this place.

Cool, little spot not far from Dam square. The prices are not bad either. The shop is very clean and has a few spots you can sit outside to enjoy the day. If you would rather sit in a cozy room, try the upstairs. The staff was helpful and provided a good expatiation of menu items.

We walked by this place while strolling along the Amsterdam canals on a Saturday afternoon in March, and I remembered the name from a Unilocal search I did on coffeeshops, so we popped in to take a look. There are two levels, and the upstairs was filled with guys lounging around, and it was totally filled with smoke. So smokey that it was kind of hard to see, so I immediately went back downstairs. We didn’t buy anything, but I took a look at the menu card they had on the side, just to see what they had on offer. Oo… they have edibles here! Both brownies and muffins. But the brownies were made with hash, and the muffins were made with weed. Someone once told me that hash is bad, and weed is superior, but I’ve never tried hash before, so I dunno. I went up to the counter to see if I could sneak a peek at the edibles, and I only saw small, plain-looking muffins wrapped in cellophane. They didn’t look as appetizing as the chocolate marble cake from De Dampkring, but I dunno, because I didn’t try any.

When in Amsterdam, go to the original coffeeshop: Abraxas. First, I’m not going to lie. We were clearly tourists walking into a herbal café. This is a novelty and feels quite sinful coming from the uptight USA. But my hubby and I were re-living our college youth on one of those lovely couple trips we take annually. So we were living in a legal and acceptable manner outside of the states. Basically, we dived into the local flavor, guilt free. We highly recommend it.(To those who may know us, Don’t Judge Us Too Harshly. YOLO.) We ordered the muffins and brownies. We only wanted to try edibles. Muffins were a bit dry and overpowering in flavor. BUT the brownies were seriously AMAZING. We had 1 each(5EU each). Taste, texture, and total sensory explosion was amazing. Flavor wise, I could have eaten a dozen, it was so rich, moist and delicious. I highly recommend it. If we ever are in Amsterdam again, we will definitely go back.

Didn’t appreciate little shit behind the bar trying to short change me. Other than that the downstairs was OK. Selection of gear OK. Drinks rather lacking, poor selection and got a expresso when ordering a Americano. Plenty more cafes to choose from.

This a good place. It’s all the same shit in the center of Amsterdam, so dont expect too much. Grass is better in my garden at home. I love Northern California. Although an enjoyable time, I would rather be at my home smoking and having a coffee. Tourist trap Amsterdam coffeeshops all over this town. Nice woodwork here and that made it feel very homelike.

A tiny little place. Close to everything. Lady behind the counter was very helpful. Very low key.

Abraxas was our first coffee shop experience when we got to Amsterdam(thank you Unilocal). Turned out to actually be a short walk from the place we were staying. We didn’t really know what to expect heading in, and I must say it’s a great place to «break the ice» for your coffee shop experience. The people working here are very friendly and very knowledgeable. We ordered a small treat and a few espressos to enjoy and went up the spiral staircase to a room to ourselves. It was really nice, and relaxing. Also their goods were fabulous. We made it to 2 other coffee shops in Amsterdam(Blue Bird and Grasshopper) and both times we wished we had just gone back to Abraxas. We did in our three days in Amsterdam get to Abraxas three times in total. It’s also not a touristy place. Highly recommended.

Fantastic woodwork(built in curved benches, rustic table tops, etc.), nice multilevel layout with teeny tiny precarious spiral staircases, mellow vibe, great hot chocolate(they give you warm milk with a gob of dark chocolate on a stick that melts as you stir!). The guy at the counter selling their other offerings seemed to actually be somewhat helpful and not condescending(unlike some other shops) and helped out the folks trying to decide how they wanted the rest of their evening to play out.

I’m not a coffee-drinker myself. So clearly I was just here to enjoy the atmosphere and accompany some friends that were particularly interested in getting some coffee. This little shop(actually a smaller offshoot of a larger establishment) is unsurprisingly VERY laid-back. They are in no rush to do anything, but once your presence is acknowledged they have what I would assume was a fantastic selection if I had any sort of experience with this sort of thing, which I definitely don’t. The helpful guy behind the counter will get you whatever you need, and you can either take your purchases to go, or up a spiral staircase into the cozy, all-wood area seemingly populated only by single dudes. This is basically a tree house entirely for relaxation. Just FYI though, you’re not going to be up there jamming out to Phish; they played nothing but hip-hop from 10 – 15 years ago, and personally, I was LOVING it. It’s been a while since Mr. Cheeks played such a prominent role in my life. A couple of warnings: 1. Make sure to read and follow the directions on the edibles. They are no joke. 2. Don’t spend all day here. It’s easy to relax, but Amsterdam is a beautiful city. If you can stand up without panicking, go exploring. As much as I like this place, a park is highly preferable.

Hash milkshakes and weed brownies! This place is amazing. I have to stop in every time I head to Europe. The floors are made of glass and its a few stories high so it can get trippy along with the big huge tree youre sitting under. cant wait to go back! The food is brilliand and a huge selections of beverages! right downtown! LOVE!

I love the furniture, which is very low to the ground, natural-looking wood. You can see the grain and the knots and bark from the trees. When you go up the spiral staircase, you almost feel that you’re entering some kind of mystical tree house. This is on a quiet street near all sorts of other wonderful places. I have wonderful memories drinking hot chocolate and mint tea here while watching the World Cup games.

First discovered Abraxas back in ’95 and it really makes me smile every time I think about it — so many good memories every visit! I have to give it a shout out for being off the beaten trail, awesome opening hours, for having great music on each floor, for having crazy décor to enjoy — watch out for the spiral stairs if you’ve been sampling — and having staff that are super accommodating. If reaching the upper floor leaves you spaced out, try the menu: D Make it a must-do, it won’t be you last trip!

Abraxas is my first morning stop while in Amsterdam. Great hot chocloate good tunes without my mellon thumping when I leave. Top notch products and service. Never a hassle like other shops who shake you down as you arrive and leave.

This place, funny enough, was one of the most memorable places I visited in Amsterdam. Seriously. I mention this place every single time I talk about my travels there. Milkshakes– Have one or many Brownies — Bad(but fun) idea to eat for breakfast :0)

Located down a narrow and quiet side street, this easy to miss coffee house came recommended to me prior to my trip abroad. It is the perfect place for first time visitors to these types of establishments especially if you are unsure of the etiquette and don’t want to stand out like a complete novice! Its been a popular venue in Amsterdam since 1992 and it has developed a beautifully chilled and relaxing environment in which to enjoy a coffee, some delightful baked goods and of course a toke on some of the many varieties of weed they offer, all with wonderful and inviting names such as Hawaiian Haze, Orange Bud and Juicy Fruit. You can buy small bags of the stuff or try individually rolled joints or maybe buy a hash pipe from the onsite shop. Spanning 3 floors each with a different atmosphere and theme as well as a small outdoor seated area, the floors are connected by a rickety spiral staircase, which takes careful negotiation if you have spent an hour or so sampling the delights. There is a variety of seating from the wooden stools outside to the comfy couches indoors and with mosaics on the walls and reggae coming from the speakers, it all goes to create a great Amsterdam vibe. Although I had heard that the staff could be rude and unwelcoming, I found the complete opposite, they were friendly and helpful and so I found myself returning more than once during my short trip to this amazing city.

Yay! This place is what it is and I have no complaints. I read about it in my guidebook, as it is well-known for their good reputation and quality. There’s plenty of seating upstairs(but you get there by ascending a really narrow winding staircase — it’s actually pretty scary if you’re afraid of heights and/or uncoordinated). Don’t have much else to say :)
