Cafe Ruk en Pluk

This bar is very unique and fun. The beer is cheap. The word «clownfetti» comes to mind to describe the theme/​décor. There is a large bell at the bar, and if you ring it, you buy everyone there a round. Students apparently frequent this place on Saturday nights. My girlfriend and I came on an off night, but that didn’t stop us from meeting some friendly local people. The name means something like «fuck and suck.» Yikes. Nevertheless, we will probably be back, hopefully at a more populated time.

definitely a fun dutch establishment. they even bring out gratis hapjes such as cheese, meats and other fried goodies. the décor can’t be beat… i mean who would have thought of covering a ceiling with foil? the only reason why i can’t give this place 5 stars is because they allow smoking in it. maybe if there were windows open it wouldn’t have been soo bad. but i certainly survived… with the help of lots of liquor. but i will say the first thing i did when i came home was threw all of my stinky cigarette smelling clothes in the wash. So if you really can’t stand cigarettes don’t come here. other wise be prepared to have lots of fun with lots of friendly strangers! it was worth the stinky cigarette smelling clothes

The ultimate Dutch experience in night life… Where to start from??? I know … The décor … Dont expect a sophisticated minimal armany house like or top designer we-​have-​fancy-​drinks-​you-​cannot-​pronounce-​so-​you must pay style… Instead the owners had the brightest idea to get nay kind of decoration from all festivities you could think about and put it on the ceiling. So among the other you will find scary clowns upside xmas trees carnival decoration and right in the middle a huge inflatable penis!!!
Main drinks are Beer (what else) and occasional don’t be surprised if someone offer you for free a Dutch delicacy. TAKE IT its FREE and after 6 – 7 beers everything tastes awesome.
I am for sure going to pay them a visit again when im around i would suggest you do it too

Why go to Ruk en Pluk?
1. The name — I was slightly embarrassed to say the name of this bar out loud at work…
2. Meter stick — Is it your turn to buy beers for everyone? No problem because they have a meter long plank here for an inappropriate amount of beer
3. Dutch — This place is VERY Dutch… like… all stereotypes you can think of mixed with the super thick Amsterdammse-​accent speaking peeps
4. Scary Clowns — The décor looks like a party/​decoration store had an exorcism performed and vomited ALL OVER THE PLACE. And there is a big creepy clown poster in the front window = LOVE!!!
5. Andre Hazes — Want to sing Dutch songs all night long? You’ve come to the right place!
6. Socialites — Love talking to complete drunk strangers?! We had several people randomly talk to us. From a lady hitting on my bf admiring his beard to the tipsy dude who told me I look like I’m in my 40s (I’m 32)… Here you’ll hear it all!
7. Cheap as fuk! — Might as well be called Ruk en Pluk and Goedkoop as Fuk because ordering drinks for a group is the same as getting two drinks and peanuts in the center of Amsterdam
So ask me if I would ruk my pluk again and I will tell you FUK YEAH!

This is a 5-​star dive bar.
For sure.
Because who doesn’t love an overly-​decorated, older-​awesome-​women-​running-​it, super-​music, super-​people, balloon-​penis-​hanging-​from-​ceiling, cheap-​drinks dive bar?
Probably my new favorite dive bar in all of Amsterdam.
