I haven’t eaten here, but from a calory perspective this would definetly be a prime source of nutrients for me. Absolutely love this place. Bit more casual than Bukowski’s, bit more bar than Maxwells. If you’re sportsfan (which I am not); this is even more the place. Love to come here for drinks (the wine menu is quite good) and conversations.

The neighborhood bar you hope you have in your own hood and I am lucky enough to have Café Kuijper just around the corner!
Lots of (local) beers on tap, good bar snack menu, all Ajax matches on the big screen and a nice terrace outside.

Excellent breakfast! As American tourists, we weren’t sure where to catch a good morning meal, but Café Kuijper has the most wonderful large breakfast, and for a reasonable price as well. We ate at a few other places during our stay, thinking we wanted variety, but we should have stuck with Café Kuijper each morning. Staff was very friendly, presentation was beautiful, food was tasty and filling. During the day and evening it was always busy with the local crowd, so I’d say it’s a good bet for visitors looking to get away from the tourist traps. A bar, but definitely not a «dive bar» according to US standards!

It isn’t a real dive bar, but a bit. It is very informal, music loud. Friendly staff. Like their glasses with their own logo. Standard menu, but fine for a bar. Not a fine of the music last night (90’s house? kind of weird and not fitting the interior) Real local bar in the East of Amsterdam. Would be my living room if I lived out here.

Kuijper is cool. A brown café that doesn’t need too much hastle, should not be listed as a super hip place nor a dive bar; it’s just a known concept done in a good way (finally!). Small menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, well priced and easy to digest. The crowd is cool and diverse and the staff is absolute adorable. The girl helping us seemed genuinly happy to have us (plus!) and showed up at the right moment as our drinks hit rock bottom several times. Another plus: they serve yummy nachos until late! Why not 5 stars? The heated terrace is fully used as outside smoking area, a little less attractive for a (recent) non-​smoker like moi :)

I don’t understand the «dive bar» listing, it’s one of the better cafes I’ve been to in Amsterdam. Much to my surprise the staff was actually friendly! The menu was standard-​ish but on the better side. The prices are super reasonable and the crowd seemed to be one of the cooler ones. The music is okay/​terrible 00’s album rock but it’s not oppressive. It’s a bit out of the way but that’s a good thing; there aren’t throngs of people walking around looking at maps and posing for photos. I’m a fan for it’s down-​to-​earth local crowd and cheap food.
