How do you kill time in Amsterdam waiting for your Segway tour to start? No, you don’t buy weed or visit the red light district for a little action. What you do is go to Broodbar and have carrot cake and espresso! I had an hour to kill and I was wandering aimlessly when I passed by this shop. The lady behind the counter looked friendly and the baked goods I could see through the window beckoned me with their siren song. Since I’m a rebel, I figured I’d have a piece of carrot cake, even though it was 8:30 in the morning. Let me tell you what, that cake was delicious. The frosting was spectacular as well but the cake itself was great. Coffee was good too. It was just what I needed to start the day. Additionally, the woman who was working was so nice. I’d definitely recommend this place as a place to have a quick snack or pick up something to go. I agree with the other reviewer who said it’s a fun place to people watch. I sat in the front window and enjoyed the parade of life that passed in front of the window.

Absolut klasse!

The Broodbar is a small, cute-looking deli where you can buy all kinds of sandwiches, quiche and cakes and enjoy them with soda, coffee or juice. It is very small. They have about 12 places to sit along the windows, bar style, but if all 12 would be taken everyone would site very close to each other. I didn’t think the staff was not very enthusiastic and they were also inefficient. We sat in front of them with our menus for a long time but it was hard to get the attention. After a while we had to go to them to ask them if we could order. We ordered drinks and sandwiches. Many of the bread on the menu wasn’t available. They brought our drinks quite fast and they were good. We had to wait for our sandwiches very long and it was not really a problem since we were not in a hurry and were chatting but after a long while we started noticing that everyone else was eating/finished/had left already and we still did not get anything. When we asked they told us they forgot our order. Okay that can happen. But this place is so small! We were seated 1 meter away from them in their direct view. Super lame and weird. Our sandwiches arrived quickly then and it tasted good but was not anything very special. It was just nice since I had eggs and bacon and that is usually a good combo. I also went to the toilet and the was no option to wash your hands. So I had to wash them in the kitchen where they make the food. :/

Visited here on a beautiful sunny but cold day in January. This little place has cemented itself as a firm fav on my foodie list and when back in The Dam I will defo be returning here for brunch! This little deli has lovely attentive and friendly staff made us feel at home as soon as we entered. They make fresh bread and cakes and honestly it was difficult to pick what to have. Also the view is brilliant for people watching think I could have stayed here all day eating and watching! We eventually settled on a goats cheese, walnut and honey toasted sandwich on homemade Rye bread. OMG this was gorgeous and nutty and sweet and savoury. All in one go! A total explosion of flavours which I have tried to recreate at home but not quite mastered unfortunately! We also had a Edam, ham and tomato salsa toasty on multi grain bread again delicious but wish we ordered two goats cheeses lol! We also ordered a slice of Carrot cake and lemon meringue cake. Now the carrot cake was good but OMG the lemon meringue had us fighting over who was getting the last bit. Delicious and light as a feather. The coffees were also great but the homemade Lemon Iced Tea was the highlight drink wise. I’ve had the typical American ice tea in New York, Florida and Vegas but this one was the best yet. Really delicate, juicy and refreshing. Again I’ve tried to make this back home but to no avail. Oh well suppose it just means we need to visit Amsterdam again soon!

I have to give them full 5 stars because: — friendly staff — they make their own bread and they are so frigging good!!!(I’m salivating right now as I imagine their freshly baked multigrain bread) — they make really delicious cakes and pies.(I think a pond just appear in front of me) — their lemon meringue. I’m speechless, you just have to go there yourself to taste it, but you’ll be lucky if it hasn’t been eaten all by me. — they make their own homemade iced tea. This concoction is almost magical with a combination of green tea, black tea, mint, and lemon.(I think the pond just turned itself into a mini lake) — the staff know their stuff.(I hate it when I visit a restaurant and ask their staff what they like or if they know what’s in a dish and they would answer«I’ve never tried. I don’t know») — their quiche… And again they’re HOMEFRIGGINGMADE. :-) (Yes… The lake has turned into an ocean of saliva) It’s just a small little place in the corner of the Nieuwemarkt square. It’s cute, cozy enough. And the choices of food are quite healthy considering they are made from scratch. The only thing I have to complain about is that they don’t have a free wifi. If they do, I’ll probably live there.
