An interesting bar that is right outside of Amsterdam Sloterdijk station. It is made out of old shipping containers and was packed full of people on an evening after work when I showed up there with some co-workers. We had some beers and bitterballen. Both were good. While there beer selection is not huge, they do have a good variety of craft beer on tap. It was nice to see a place in Sloterdijk that is not an office building or lunch room. I would definitly go back here again.

I found a bug in my salad and told the waitress. She looked confused and said I’ll tell the kitchen. No response afterwards, no apologies, nada. My veggie portobello burger consisted of a large mushroom in white bread scattered with some onions and fried kale/boerenkool that tasted like cardboard. Customer service? nearly non existent but they did serve a pitcher of free water from the tap without any questions. Score! Music was too loud to hold a conversation even in the dining area. We had to keep moving to find a place we could talk without shouting. Left the place with my ears ringing and a headache. I’m too old for this. However, the location is convenient, outside seating is ample if weather permits, and the beer list extensive. Eat before you get here and bring ear plugs to dampen the horrible sound system & acoustics. I guess if you are a meat eating but not hungry 23 year old who doesn’t care about going deaf in the future, and don’t mind confusing music(from the 80s to ethnic?) this is the place for you!

My friends were exhausted from the plane ride form Prague and didn’t feel like traveling far for food so I checked Unilocal and we decided to go here since it was the closest to the train station. It’s suitable if you feel like being served after a long day and you want a hearty meal. But as my friends and I are our burgers, we noticed that the buns were bland, cottony, and absorbing all the oil and grease from the meat. We would have enjoyed our burgers far more had the buns been better. Unfortunately, the buns detracted significantly from the experience and made the meal seem like it was worth far less than the price stated on the menu. Service was very friendly and accommodating. They were able to do split checks so if you’re going with a group, it’s a good place to go. It’s also quite a casual, relaxed atmosphere.

We were a couple of times now at Bret and the food and drinks are acceptable. Also the price and the location is okay. But the staff that works at Bret is the worst that you can possibly imagine. If you’re okay with being treated in the most arrogant, ignorant and unfriendliest way then i can suggest you a visit at Bret. But if you want to enjoy your lunch or diner with a nice and friendly service, you should simply go to any other restaurant in Amsterdam.

An oasis in an uninspiring area. I travel to Sloderdijk Station for business. Until Bret opened, I would typically take the train to Centraal Station right after work. Now there is an option in Sloterdijk for a drink or meal. It is particularly pleasant to sit at an outside picnic table when the weather is good.

I was very excited when I saw that they were going to open this new place in Sloterdijk. Let’s face it, it is not the most exciting part of town, with mostly office buildings and the occasional tourist staying in one of the hotels in the area. Bret is a breath of fresh air in the area and will most definitely will become a success. Their menu is focus in sustainable/organic products and their beer menu is very very good, with emphasis is local craft beers. This should not come as a surprise as the people behind Bret are the same as the creators of the classic Hannekes Boom. They also have a great garden for the sunny days which I believe they will be using not only for the sunny days but also for hosting beer events.

I love craft beer and have been looking forward to the opening of BRET for some time. A collaboration of the folks behind Hannekes Boom and Nordman Beer, this beer café and restaurant is going to be awesome! I’ve been by a few times while it was under construction and on opening day. The menu will focus on sustainability and food that pairs well with beers. They will have beer from local brewers in stock as well as hosting beer events and festivals here. Can’t wait! Also they will have food from local purveyors like De IJsmakerij(best ice cream in Amsterdam, people) and Dikke Lepel. Come sit in their garden or on their roof terrace on a sunny day.
