Bij Storm is a beach house that could be the club house of the landsailing club(if they have one) of wind ‘n wheels activities. Wind ‘n wheels is an activity company that do landsailing, go karting and they are talking about building a dirt bike track in the future. They are both on the same land and the activity company lead to the sand that lead to the beach house that is Bij Storm. Note this is not next to the water — no mosquitos is a plus in my book! They have a good selection of beers: on tap was Heineken and Weizen brand, bottled beer included Brouwerij Zatte(a local favorite of mine), le Trappist Dubbel and flavoured kriek cherry beer and Bacchus raspberry beer amongst others. The white wine was a one of the better house whites I’ve had in Amsterdam and was a very nice Spanish Verdejo Radio Boco. We had a very tasty BBQ. Salmon, chicken and spare ribs all very nicely done. I’ll be going back to try their soft shell crab starter and hopefully organise a go at landsailing! :)

This restaurant is more of an oasis amidst a vast sports park and your only source of comfort at the edge of it. After wind sailing or doing whatever sports activities they have available. It’s a great place to lounge and have a few beers, ice teas or sodas along with lunch or dinner. They appear to have a full bar as well.

It’s a bit difficult to find this place, as they have no clear signage on the building or on the road. But if you follow the signs for land sailing, then they will lead you to this oasis in the middle of nothingness. But it has free parking! Which is kind of a miracle in Amsterdam. Also be sure to wear closed shoes, or else you’ll probably get a foot full of sand since the building is surrounded by sand on all sides. But other than that, the food is de-licious! I had spare ribs that were well cooked with decent BBQ sauce, a well cooked baked potato, some delicious and moist BBQ salmon with ‘lamb’s ear’ and lemon wedge, and a simple green salad with a vinaigrette. Based on that I deduce that everything would be good here. They have a decent selection of lambics, i.e. beers made from fruits like strawberry and raspberry, which makes me very happy. And their chef is cute, and a genius. The alcohol had no influence on that opinion. The food is way better than I would expect from a place set up to provide food and shelter to those who do land sailing and the other sports they offer here. So if you’re dragged here by a boyfriend or spouse, don’t despair, the people at Bij Storm will feed you and treat you right. (Disclaimer: I was here for an event so my food was free.)

I really was doubting whether I should give this place 2 or 3 stars but my starter saved them. Just came home from having dinner here. My boyfriend read about it in a local ‘East’ paper we got delivered. We were a bit disappointed when we arrived as it does look like a beach house(as they call it) but one that was just dropped somewhere, anywhere. We thought there would be water; a bit like the next Roest or Pllek. Instead there was just a lot of sand. Our waiter was nice though you could tell he’s not a catering industry kinda guy. We got our drinks and had some bread with aioli and chili sauce(?). I’ve never had to put chili sauce on a piece of bread before. I had the Jacky D’Chicken as a starter and I must say it was good. Good quality ingredients, good flavours and nicely done plate. My boyfriend choose the corn soup(a bit spicy) with popcorn which I would have loved to take home with me in a big jar and eat tomorrow and the day after. We then had a burger(I didn’t want the patty) as they didn’t have the ribs(such a shame!). I was expecting more from the burger after the starter I had but nothing special about the burger really though not a bad one. The fries were too sloppy for my taste. Dessert was cheesecake with coconut ice cream which came from Holtkamp — definitely enjoyable. Good to know: they only do bbq’s for groups
