Very cute family-owned place in Bos en Lemmerweg area. They have a nice terrace in the back, which was great on a warm night(yay!). Rijstaffel came out to about € 30pp, and it was soooo much food. Every dish was delicious and a few were even spicy! Woo. The meal ended with awesome spekkoek and tea. Great place to eat, highly recommended.

My partner and I are vegan, and we found Betawi to be a great place for us in Amsterdam. The menu had many vegetarian options(four pages or so!), most of which had no cheese, dairy, etc. The food itself was fantastic, well spiced and plenty of it. I would recommend sharing an order of rice between two people as there was a lot of food in each of our orders. As others note, the food is very fresh and made to order. The best part of the meal was the extremely friendly folks who worked there. We don’t speak a word of Dutch, but they joked around with us and helped us with the menu. All around great experience, affordable prices, highly recommend.

This place is amazing. The peanut sauce is the best and freshest I’ve ever had. The noodles and egg were the perfect pairing for it. The chicken was super tasty and smothered in a delicious, creamy type of coconut curry. The terrace is nice and covered in beautiful flowers. We could seen into the kitchen as they prepared our food, which really added to the authentic ambiance. The service was fast and friendly, and the owner(I presume) was very sweet and welcoming.

The oldest Indonesian restaurant of Amsterdam. We ordered two ”degustation menus” for 25 € per person for two people minimum. We were able to indicate our preferences: satay and randang sauces for us! For the starter, we had shrimp egg rolls and pork satay skewers. Great satay and LOTS of it! As the main courses got there, we realized the HIGH quality of the restaurant: we were able to discover 12 different types of dishes(meats with sauces + vegetarian dishes). All very different and DELICIOUS. Our favorite were the chicken and the beef randang. Rice cooked in coconut cream is served on the side as well as prawn crackers. The servers — from the same family — know their stuff. They are very attentive and even funny. Everything is HOMEMADE, YES, the prawn crackers too! For dessert, we asked for the typical traditional Indonesian cake: spekkoek. Not gonna insist again that it was homemade but you could taste the freshness! Two different pieces are served with a coffee or tea, as you prefer and whipped cream. At the end of the meal, the servers invited us to visit their backyard! 45 minutes by foot to reach this restaurant outside of the center, but well worth-it! Congratulations to the chef and the whole sweet team!

On a donc testé !

Wow! We are here in Amsterdam and are craving good Indonesian food. Just a short walk from our hotel brought us to Betawi. Lucky us! My husband ordered. It was a taste sensation with medium heat. The food was so varied and interesting! It was a nice mix of pork, beef, Indonesian rice, cooked and pickled veggies. I had Belgium beer that went perfectly. Then the bill came and it was very modest, nice surprise! All I can say is go there and get some terrific food!
