Great food and welcoming staff to a hungry, jet-​lagged traveler from way, way out of town.
I was shown around, my coffee arrived quickly with a heart on it, what’s not to love about this place? Thanks, Bakhuys!

In a word, artisanal. You can view the bakers work their craft. There was a single croissant I wanted, but the girl at the counter told me to wait for a fresh one. I told her it was okay, but she insisted I wait unless I was in a rush. I wasn’t so I took my coffee and sat down. A minute later, the baker came out and personally delivered the fresh croissant. We chatted a bit. Nice guy. In fact, the whole staff is friendly.

I gotta say, the food is great! The service however is bit unpredictable. We’ve had times when they were super friendly, other times when we felt almost like we were bothering them to be there. there was especially one man who was very rude to us and it created a very strange and tense situation, but we put up with it because the food is just so darn tasty. If the service (attitude) met the standard of food, this place would be a ¹⁰⁄₁₀.

Sandwiches were well made, bread was delicious, cheese was fresh, and the staff are fun. Atmosphere is great for doing work or just having a casual lunch with friends.

Great food & atmosphere. I like to come in the restaurant to have brunch any day of the week. All their items are very tasty and the atmosphere in unique. You can see them making everything from scratch.
As I am typing, one of the chefs is making some pastry and it is great to look at.
It really relaxes you to kick off your day in the best possible way!
The portions are rather big and the staff is very friendly.
Big kudos to the whole team as this has become my go to spot.

Super nettes Café (und mehr). Bedienung ist freundlich und die preise sind sehr fair. Wir hatten einen Cappuccino und einen Latte Macchiato. Beides war sehr lecker.

Loved this place. Had a croissant which was amazing, fresh orange juice, and great coffee. Wish I found this place earlier so I could also try their pizza.

Amazing bakery with a great bio stuff and really hip. They make sandwiches from their own bread and they have a lot of soups and salades. They have clipper tea and they make cute pictures on your cappuccino foam. Love it here. Smells so good there!

So far, the best bakery I’ve tried in Amsterdam. I sometimes stop on my way to work and grab a muesli bol, which is the best one I’ve tried. I also tried the white chocolate one on the weekend and it was amazing. Actually, all the baked goods have been fantastic and their bread is very delicious as well! The place has an open and industrial feel and we also got talking to the owner who is a very nice and friendly guy. On a Saturday, we tried the flat bread pizza and while I didn’t think it overall was amazing, the crust/​bread stood out once again. So I would say this is the place to go to feed your bread fetish!

The open space is pretty cool and there’s a good variety on offer. I’ve only been to the bakery side of the place.
On the other hand, the freshly baked croissant was more of a freshly overly baked croissant-​like pastry that turned into sad little piles of flakes on my desk as I bit into its dryness. The chocolate bread was fine but for the price I’ll pass.
And I’m sure it’s really hard to crack a smile at the customer who wishes you a bright good morning. The rest of us don’t have to work for a living so we just go around smiling at people because we got nothing else to do.

The service is pretty indifferent and at times capricious, as if they will decide if you get pastries so you better shut up and get in line! The pastries are, dare I say it, worth it. The cinnamon bun tastes like it was made with cinnamon candy, and everything here is just delicious. Oh Bakhuys, please be nice! You know I can’t quit you!

We were so lucky to have found this place! We’ve been here several mornings, and all the pastries have been fabulous, and the coffee is delicious, and the staff friendly. This will definitely be recommended by me to anyone who is visiting Amsterdam. Best of luck to them!

This bakery/​café has absolutely fantastic baked goods and coffee. Their almond croissant is particularly delicious. We’ve come every morning for the last three days, and I fully expect that we will continue to do so for the remainder of our stay in Amsterdam.
17-​Oct-​2016 Update: After returning home from Amsterdam, I went to pretty much every bakery in Portland, trying to find a better almond croissant. I failed — none were as good as the ones they have at Bakhuys. Changed from 4 to 5 stars.

I ended up coming here three mornings out of five, soooo good! Quiche was amazing; spinach, pine nuts, cheese, soft and buttery crust… wow, devine! Very fairly priced. Highly recommend it! Enjoy!!!

Perfect place to go for a casual breakfast or lunch. They have a nice variety of pastries, breads, sandwhiches, soups and other good stuff. Also ideal place to meet up friends for coffee or tea. Service is good. I thought they were very much customer service oriented.

Their sourdough bread is seriously on point. Rivals some of the best bread in San Francisco.
Service has gotten way better since I’ve first stopped in. Their selection is great and so is the variety. Bread is crisp and ingredients are flavorful. Would recommend picking up a couple of sandwhiches and enjoying it along the canal.

Bakhuys is a new dual-​purpose bakery/​small market MEETS café/​restaurant. They have a beautiful interior that is modern and has some really nice custom touches. I LOVE the feeling when you step inside. Definitely stop in for a coffee or bread if you’re in the area.
Their bread is incredible — such perfect bread. They have a special baking oven from Germany that is the only one in the Netherlands. I gave up my low-​carb diet last night to eat some sourdough. Their macarons are nice — good selection of sweets to choose from.
The restaurant just opened in late March — and the food is okay at this point, that’s why I’m voting three stars. The menu is creative, so I’m hoping they can pull it off! Chili is okay, has too many beans and too thick, but I was happy to have chili around in amsterdam and appreciate the try.
The burger needs some work — patty wasn’t good and a bit too much sauce, so try the gnochhi or soup instead.
Overall — the service was good and friendly and I will be back.
