Foxglove

My wife and I enjoyed quite an nice dinner here a few days ago with two friends. Our appetisers of Chicken Wings was delicious but I found that the Sheared Tuna was uninviting to eat as it was quite raw.
Our mains consisted of a Groper and Mussels dish and a Lamb dish. Both were only mediocre dishes I felt taste wise
My dessert proved to the stand-​out course of the whole evening. It was served in a deep wine glass consisting of a tasty fig and honey icecream with pieces of meringue and hokey pokey and roasted peanuts mixed in. This helped to save what was otherwise an mediocre enjoyable evening food wise at the Foxglove Restaurant.

Great location perfect to catch the last rays of Wellington sunshine on a great day, however that’s about as far as the praise goes.
Bar staff are rude, un-​attentive and look like they couldn’t care if they where there or not.
Food was highly average. I ordered crab which came as a mayonnaise with spring onion tossed through, the ratio of mayo to crab was extremely low as the meal tasted of spring onion only.
The beers they are pouring are wanna-​be Wellington craft beer but charging top dollar to drink.
I would not recommend this place and would choose to go elsewhere.

Bar review only: My hotel concierge recommended Foxglove as a good place to get a class of wine, and they were right. Located right on the harbour with some nice views during the day, the bartenders are quite friendly, there’s fast and free WiFi (get a password from the staff), and their selection of drinks is quite good.
I stuck to the wine, and had plenty of solid choices from both New Zealand and abroad, but mostly New Zealand (the whites, at least). I had a few different glasses over a couple of visits, ranging from $ 9 to $ 15 per glass, and all were quite good.
The atmosphere, at least on the weeknights I went, was nice. There are nice little secluded seating areas and some different decoration aside from a traditional «sit and have a drink» type atmosphere. As a result, it feels very relaxed and welcoming.
