I love chow. Hard to go wrong here. Such yummy comfort food with an Asian twist! I regularly have the jungle curry. I can’t tolerate spicy as much as I’d like to, so I ask for coconut cream on the side. One of my favourite curries in Wellington. Their lunch specials are great and worth it. Cocktails aren’t bad too.

I absolutely loved this place. Great service and the food was sublime so good. The fried chicken wings where so good as was the satay. What else can I say a must try in Wellington might be worth booking or getting there early it’s well worth it.

This is my favourite spot to chow down on some asian fusion food. Firstly they cater to a large range of dietary requirements, with handy little coloured dots for dairy free, gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, organic and gluten free on request. The dishes range from about $ 10 — $ 17 and if you’re hungry you probably need about 2 dishes, or 1.5 so it can be a good place to order a few more dishes than there are people and share. Mondays here a HECTIC. This is because they offer 2 dishes for the price of 1, Which is a good ploy for an otherwise traditionally slow hospitality night. So if you choose to partake in this evening be prepared to wait for a table and the dishes may take a little while. But hell it’s half price and totally worth it. My faves include the Jungle Curry which I ask for with a bit of heat, and also the vietnamese paper rolls. Both had fresh ingredients and a good amount of flavour. I would suggest ordering a bowl of udon noodles of soba noodles on the side if you are a hungasaurus as the meal sizes are petite. Also if you can and the Wellington wind isn’t blowing, try and get yourself an outdoor table with premium people watching potential. Also look out for their 2 for 1 Cocktail nights! they are delicious. This place advertises that they use all free range ingredients, which I am noticing more and more in Wellington establishments and I think it is awesome, I figure if you are going to be ethical about one item it’s pretty silly to then use factory farmed animals for your other menu items.(ie. lots of places offer free range eggs now but not chicken). I am hoping this trend takes off soon in Adelaide!

Now I’m not one to be overly critical of the places I tend to visit. Chow offered up a service experience unlike anything I’ve previously been exposed too in my almost half century on this planet. Now the food was of a good standard, well presented and above average sized and taste. This was all fairly much let down be the below par service. To sum it up in two word ‘simply weird’ immediately springs to mind. The service person appeared unpleased about us arrival. The special requests about the raw beef to be left on a side plate only added to the feeling. This was topped off with a 20 min wait for a dresser menu that never arrived. Not to be outdone a fellow member of the service team arrived to started to removed unfinished plates without so much as a hello or excuse me. So ‘simply wired’ is an apt discretion. Although on the face of it not a worse case experience but enough to make me think twice about a return visit that is for sure. Happy New Year Chow!!!

Amazing Asian fusion restaurant with a very diverse menu. The chicken satay skewers were absolutely amazing, as were the pork and shiitake mushroom dumplings. Most items are small, so order a few. The cocktail menu was quite extensive(including non alcoholic cocktails) and the atmosphere was relaxed. Definitely recommend.

I have really loved my time at Chow every time I’ve been. As a vegetarian they have heaps of really good options for me and their spiced tofu is one of my top dishes from any restaurant. I also really enjoy their cocktails. The service was decent, nothing special but certainly not disappointing. It can feel a bit pricey sometimes but I usually find it’s worthwhile.

The food was good but the portions were very small. Food took a long time to arrive and they also ran out of a lot of dishes.

Excellent lunch deal and plenty of options for vegetarians. The pumpkin curry was my favorite. Customer service was very friendly and the view from the deck was quite good on a pleasant day. Monday nights get very busy since they have the 2 for 1 deal on food.

I would be very tempted to say this is my favourite restaurant in Wellington! The most amazing Asian fusion cuisine I have ever tasted. The menu is so extensive with so much variety, and the sharing style menu means you’re trying something new every time. Not the mention the incredible cocktails — Piña Chow Lada!!! — which are 2-for-1 on certain days of the week! The salt and pepper squid and blue cheese wontons and life altering

The restaurant DIDNOT live up to reviews. The food was at best bland and the service was rushed and poor. Bruce B

Unbelievably bad food, disinterested staff, average cocktails… We want the $ 200 we spent there back. We will never return and I will gladly discourage everyone I know from going there.

This place is a Wellington classic. Delicious and very tasty Asian food that is served with excellent service time and time again. I have never had a bad experience here. It can sometimes be a bit of a wait for a table but you are now able to book which can help solve that issue. Monday nights are two for one which is amazing value for money but of course much busier! Would highly recommend this place. My favourite dishes would be the yellow chicken curry and the beggars purse. Yum!

Fresh and seriously tasty food. We had dumplings to share, which were crisp and great flavour combinations, then I had a curry, with a side of jasmine rice. The sauce was creamy and tasted great, coupled with really tasty and vegetables. A definite must if you’re visiting Wellington

The thing that struck me in Wellington is that the hospitality staff ARESUPERNICE! Chow Tory is no exception. We strolled in, stocked up on peach ice teas and asked the waiter to bring us a selection of food so we can sample the best Chow Tory had to offer. We feasted on blue cheese wontons, sweet pumpkin fritters, salmon rice paper rolls and satay. All very delicious. Will return when I am back in Wellington.

I took a quick break from the Te Papa museum one day to get my spicy food fix in at Chow. They offer a cool $ 25 lunch deal where you get to choose 2 dishes of the Thai/Chinese/Japanese variety along with a side of rice and a drink. I wasn’t that hungry and because it was pouring cats and dogs outside, I opted for the Jungle Curry with tofu, roasted veggies, kaffir lime and coconut cream. The big bowl of curry was a beautiful ocean of yellow and I couldn’t wait to dive in. This dish was very spicy, my mouth was on fire and I liked it! The coconut/lime combo was swimmingly delicious, been so long since I had Thai curry this good! I think the only downside to this dish, I was hoping for a bit more of the fried tofu. The very next day I decided to come back again for lunch! This time I had the Massaman curry with braised lamb shank and roasted peanuts. This hearty dish was loaded with melt in your mouth chunks of lamb and kumara(a sweet potato/pumpkin hybrid– which is sadly not avail in the US). I loved the textural crunch I got every now and then from the sprinkled peanuts on top. Although this did not pack as much heat as the Jungle Curry, I loved the luxurious flavors of the lamb, coriander and tamirind spices. Again another winner :-). If only I had more time in Wellington to try the rest of their menu!

I have been to Chow twice, and both times I’ve been super impressed with the quality of food for the price that you pay for it. They have a mixed culture Asian menu — curries, fish cakes, teriyaki, etc. The best thing on that menu has to be the jungle curry though. It’s yellow curry with just the right amount of heat, which goes down a treat with coconut rice. Cocktails are pretty standard price wise too, but they are a twist on the usual so you can try something a little different. Students about the place will love Chow for its 2 for 1 cocktails on Wednesdays and Saturdays, as well as 2 for 1 meals on another night of the week. How can you go wrong with that? LOVE it.
