I really like cheesecake and have a gut to prove it! My only gripe with cheesecake is that too often it comes with jam of some description on top — I firmly believe jam belongs in a jar and cheesecake should be plain, ie filling and base. Problem is most of cheesecakes here have the dreaded jam but I bought one that was plain and I must say it tasted great. Just the right amount of base and filling — it was luscious without being sickly sweet. They do a range of other cakes which all look like they belong on a sweet trolley from an old school restaurant but taste really good. I did notice they had a black forest gâteau in their cabinet — this used to be my favourite dessert when I was a kid in the 1980s. I thought it was out of favour now but when I tasted it, it brought me right back to my childhood in Dublin. The Cheesecake shop is not cutting edge, it’s a bit old school but in a good way.

Forget diamonds being a girl’s best friend, my best friend is a black forest cake! My love for black forest cake started when I walked into Cheesecake shop after doing some meat shopping in the Mad Butcher’s next door. I just wanted something to munch on till I got home so I was looking at the $ 2 slices. In the cabinet was a black forest and I just had to try it. I got in the car took my first bite and knew that from that day on wards black forest was my go to cake, for birthdays, celebrations and every other day. I did try other black forest cakes but they weren’t as good as the one at the cheesecake shop.
