Delicious cupcakes for $ 4.50… A lot of icing but good for your sugar fix should you be needing one. Would come here for a treat… Highly recommend. They also have gluten free options… And they taste just as good.

Petal produces the most glorious cupcakes in Auckland(or maybe even the world!) with a myriad of both cake flavours and delectable butter cream icing, it’s almost too difficult to choose. And best of all, if you can’t make it into one of their bakeries you can go online to their website and«drool n’click» and Petal will send your order by courier. Morning tea in the office today included a delicious collection of options. All so good that we had to cut each delicate cake in half in order to double the delectable offering of flavours! My favourites are Golden Syrup, Salted Caramel, Strawberry and Passionfruit — and that’s just the butter cream icing!!! The cakes themselves range from Red Velvet, Banana, Chocolate and Vanilla to name just a few. Petal cupcakes are wicked in the very best possible way and at $ 5.00 each are great value.

Cupcakes that double as roses? Please and thank youuuuu. With flavours such as Hawkes Bay Peach, Black Doris Plum, Tropical Mango and Balsamic Strawberry(to name a few) — you’ll most definitely find something to fall in love with. Being in a berry mood, I went for Petal’s raspberry cupcake and wellllllllll, I can confirm it tasted like an extra sweet pint of FRESHRASPBERRIES. And it was just gorgeous. As was the packaging, which also doubles as a rose. SWOON. At $ 5 a pop, one of these bad boys is definitely a treat(although compared to similar price tags for a flat white, you are walking away with something much more substantial!). They also do catering if you are looking for a beautiful sweet treat platter ;)

What can I say? What used to be the go to store for cupcakes has… Sigh! The $ 5 price tag is not bad since the starting price for any sweet item has rocketed in past few years. But what I can’t overlook is that the icing I got today wasn’t even mixed properly. The icing was so grainy it felt like was made by a 5 year old. On the bright side, the cupcake itself is quite moist and the icing is flavoured nicely.

Found it tucked away and fell in love with their shelves packed with gorgeously flower(petal) iced cupcakes of all sorts of flavours. Had to get a four pack with the flavours– Hawkes Bay Peach, Strawberry and Balsamic(recommended, and sounds interesting), Salted caramel and Honey and Lavender(sounded very intriguing). Beautifully packed box and dessert for tonight!

As a cupcake baker, and entrepreneur, I had to try Petal Cupcakes! They were the first, or one of the first solely cupcake shops ever in Auckland. When I visited, the shop was about to close so there were limited flavours. So I grabbed a couple to bring home to taste test…$ 5 each. My flatmate also brought some home before that so I had already tried a few flavours. The cupcake base itself, in general, was good. Nice and moist — but it seemed like it was just chocolate or vanilla. They only really change the icing flavours. My pet peeve with Petal cupcakes was that you could tell that the flavouring was artificial. Maybe they’re using flavouring oils or something, because it was intense, but artificial. The icing got smooshed in the box too, part of the point of a pretty cupcake is that it should be pretty when you eat them(is that just me?). Also, they’re all decorated the same which is a little boring. So they were good, but I wouldn’t go back again and pay $ 5 for one — I’d rather go to my fav, Bluebell’s Cakery & get my money’s worth.

Petal is a place to go to, to buy overpriced cupcakes. That being said, cupcakes all over Auckland are overpriced. Expense aside, the actual quality of the Petal cupcakes is pretty high. The actual cake is soft and spongy and they are always iced perfectly. I would suggest the golden syrup flavoured one, or the coffee one. The salted caramel is a favourite to many, but I think one of the others is better. The store is really just a tiny takeaway shop. I guess you don’t really need much room to sell cupcakes. The girls(they’re always girls) behind the counter are pretty nice, they’re always happy to suggest flavours. The packaging of the cupcakes at Petal is pretty cool, I mean, that must be what you’re paying for. You get a little box with handle even if you only buy one cupcake. $ 5 for a cupcake. I can’t tell if that is crazy or not, but I mean, I’ve done it before so it can’t be THAT bad. Maybe I’m just cheap.

This place had always been just round the corner from where I work, and I had never ever tried them, despite all my colleagues saying they were incredible. So when my birthday rolled around, I decided I would treat myself and get a few cupcakes instead of a full on cake. I really enjoyed it actually, I chose a number of different flavours and I cut them all up so we all got to taste a bit of each. My favourite flavours were the peach and the salted caramel. Both were just as they said they were and so so good. When I first bought them I thought they were a little on the pricey side, but after tasting them I realised they really weren’t. The ingredients used were obviously the best and I can’t wait for my next birthday to get them again!

Petal Cupcakes are always delicious and that’s just a given. In my experience, their salted caramel and double chocolate would turn any non-believer. The store on Teed Street is a tiny thing but it serves its purpose. Make a note to go in early or if you can, order ahead– you’ll find that some flavours such as red velvet are always the first to disappear. However, they do supply quite a range of flavours, so don’t be afraid to try something new– the Hawke’s Bay Peach was a pleasant surprise for me! I’ve always found the service to be satisfactory and very patient considering how long it can take some people to pick the flavour they’re after. At $ 5 a pop it can be a little pricey, so its always a bit more bang for your buck to purchase 5 or 6 at a time or even split the cost with a friend.

Petal have the most incredible cupcakes! Not only are they impressively presented, but they taste as delicious as they look. As soon as you set foot into this stunning little store, the alluring smell is heavenly. From vanilla to red velvet, peach to doris plum, there is a cupcake suited for everyone. Not only are they in Newmarket, but Petal also have a store inside Witchery in Ponsonby(9 Rose Road, Ponsonby).
