When it comes to power lunches on work days, it doesn’t get better than Japanese Donburi Bowls for a quick but flavourful filler that will leave you feeling like you’ve had the full benefit of a restaurant meal for half the standard price. Today, I had one of these amazing Donburi power lunch experiences at Hatz in Newmarket. Although not the flashiest location, Hatz boasts a great selection of traditional Japanese Donburi Bowls and Bento boxes, consisting of all our local faves, such as Teriyaki Chicken, and Chicken Katsu, as well as heaps of additional tempura options for entrée (think crab, prawn and veggie) for when you have a bit longer than a lunch break to sit and eat. Featured below is their Spicy Teriyaki Chicken Donburi, which was served with rice, cabbage, carrot, cucumber and mayo. It was absolutely delicious, really flavourful, and truthfully quite spicy (not super sweet like teriyaki sometimes tends to be) but still true to classic Teriyaki flavour. The veggie accompaniments really offset the spicy chicken fantastically. Considering this decent sized bowl only cost $ 11 or so, we were really impressed by the generosity of the portion size provided. The service was also wonderful. All in all, dope food, service and an excellent price point. I highly recommend this place to all workers looking for a quality lunch experience.
