The Basin is the oldest cricket ground in New Zealand and one of the best places to watch a test match. The first test match to be played here was against England in 1930. I have fond memories of sitting under the Pohutukawa trees and watching the Black Caps in action with my dad, brother-in-law and nephews! My best memory would have to be watching Kumar Sangakkara score his 12000th test run and 11th double century, here in January(2015). The New Zealand cricket museum is located in the old grandstand. Worth a visit, if you love the game! You can’t miss the Basin Reserve, as it sits at the intersection point for the Wellington suburbs of Mount Cook, Newtown and Mount Victoria — it literally forms a giant roundabout!
