Warm and cosy corner pub on busy Parnell Rise. With $ 20 lunch specials including a drink, it’s an easy choice on a cold day away from the crowds. Lots of historic photos of Auckland to look at on the walls. The building dates back to the 1880’s and there’s been a licensed pub in this spot since 1847, since time began by New Zealand standards.

A lively and well established bar right in the heart of Parnell. We came here on Monday night as they have live jazz and a good deal on Pizza — $ 10 each. I must say I expected the staff in a place as cool as this to be a bit up themselves but they were actually really nice and very helpful. The pizza tasted really good and it was washed down with a nice Heineken. The music was good but I am not a massive jazz fan and it got a bit boring after a while. When we used to housesit in Parnell, we generally went to the Bog(now McCarthys) or the Ivory Lounge down the other end. I would recommend this bar as it’s got a lively atmosphere and the food and drink is very good. Hard to fault really.

If the Windsor Castle was an animal it would be a Chameleon. But not the slow, indecisive, Ozzy Ozbourne chameleons you normally see. This Chameleon would be cool. He would be regal but dapper; he would have gone to a private school but would still let you borrow the Audi to go to the beach. The range of beers, New Zealand wines and special events every night. The super trendy function room. The live music, sporting events and pub quizzes. The smiley and accommodating service with fantastic cocktail knowledge. What tips the scales for me is enjoying the great food in their outdoor cabana bar. Try Windsor’s wood-fired pizzas, the chef’s chicken liver paté or the cheesey crumbed jalapeños. A heavy-weight Chameleon King amongst pubs.
