Don’t be fooled by the cool exterior of these vets, they are extremely compassionate and caring towards animals. I have a story that backs this statement up.
We moved to Avondale and I began buying our pet food from Western Vets. One day I saw a sign on the door that read ‘Three-​legged ginger cat. 3 months old, requires home.’ I bought my food and went on my way but I couldn’t stop thinking about the cat and a few days later I returned to ask about it. Dr Singh introduced me to Tripod, and the rest is history.
It turned out that at 6 weeks old Tripod had been beaten nearly to death and then abandoned at the surgery. Dr Singh and his team chose to save him and amputate his leg then nurse him back to health instead of giving him the golden shot. They spent weeks and months caring for this tiny kitten, painstakingly nursing him back to health. They then charged me nothing to adopt him except a vaccination fee.
These people are my heroes. They are humble, caring and compassionate and have devoted their lives to the care of animals. Their prices are relatively low and half of me suspects that they make themselves affordable to encourage those on lower incomes to take their pets to the vet sooner rather than later.
Not only all this but every scrap of advice and care they have provided for me and my animals over the past three years has been spot on. I could not recommend them more highly.

I am a recent owner of a re-​homed dog and so do not have much experience with other vets to compare my experiences. However, in getting our re-​homed dog we found that her vaccines, worming/​flee treatments had all lapsed. This was all very simple and straightforward and the main Vet and nurse did all that was required for our visit. I agree with the other reviews that this place does not have all the bells and whistles of other ‘nicer’ vets but the price is extremely affordable, convenient location, and doesn’t try to ‘up-​sell’ you vet care that your pet does not need. Really it comes down to what type of customer service you want and the premium you are willing to pay for it. As for me and my pooch, Western Vet hits the mark.

Sick pets suck, death warrants on very sick pets suck even more, but a friendly helpful and sympathetic vet helps, I appreciate the help from Mr Singh and his team. They all work very hard and long hours.
I had to take my beautiful boy (cat) in here today and was pleasantly surprised they didn’t even charge me a consult fee, just the painkillers at $ 15. Eases the purse strings at least.
Right next door a SPCA Op Shop has recently opened too.

This used to be my vet until they changed the main vet. The old vet wasn’t exactly the friendliest vet who gushed over your cat, but he knew what he was doing and would make you feel like your pet was looked after. Then came the new vet, who I didn’t like at all. He would ask you questions which made you think like he was tricking you or trying to catch you out about not looking after your pet properly. He never remembered you or your pet. The nurses aren’t nice. The only good thing about the place was that they were extremely affordable. So if you’re looking for a competent vet that doesn’t charge much, this is a place for you. If you’re looking for a friendly, competent vet who gives a crap about you and your loved one, look elsewhere.
