Disappointed is the world. Fish and chips 19NZD and a beer 11NZD. Well its fine if you are ready to pay as I was, however the portion is so small !! One piece of fish and few fries come on !!! My friend took the steak and fries, 24NZd and the steak was the size of my palm max !! No way… not a good value for lunch.

Tucked off of the main drag of Queen Street, this place is tucked into Vulcan Lane, it’s a mighty fine place for breakfast.(especially if you aren’t wanting eggs every way. This place has plenty of other options that don’t include eggs(for those that don’t like them) They even do things for the rest of the day as well. The staff are friendly, the food is great and love the coffee.

Great little change of pace for lunch today at Urchin and Amber. The inside is more spacious than I expected, and decorated with the perfect amount of light wood and plants. The staff was super friendly from beginning to end. I ordered a pint of chowder — be aware it comes in a literal pint glass. It was really tasty and came with delicious toast points for dipping. My friend ordered a salmon bagel with capers that she polished off quickly, which speaks to her satisfaction. Its the perfect environment for adding a cheeky glass of wine(Man O War was the monthly feature, soooo tempting) or a craft beer to your lunch, but we abstained this time. I can’t say I’ll do that next time. It took a noticeable amount of time for our food, not a complaint just a heads-up, this is definitely a place to go where you can utilise your full hour for lunch. They’ve also got a rotating daily special, so you can try the menu on a fair budget. Our lunch came to $ 25 for the two of us. I’ll definitely be back for a lunch catch-up or 1:1 meeting over a bevvie.

Rising above the tourist driven tide of Vulcan lane, Urchin and Amber describes itself on its Facebook page as a gastro-pub with a passion for craft beer and good quality fish and chips. The ambience includes indoor seating in an updated pub hall beneath the golden haze of industrial French lamps and outdoor seating to watch the shoal of shoppers pass by. The daytime menu is a pleasant surprise, firstly because everything on it is reasonably priced. Secondly, because there is something for everyone. Breakfast dishes, a range of toasted sandwiches with fillings of international flavor, a selection of healthy salads and decadent homemade cookies and warm desserts. Anywhere that offers a bowl of coco pops with chocolate milk for little and big kids gets my vote! The Cubano sandwich is as good as any in Havana. The hazelnut melting pot is irresistibly satisfying. One could criticize this place for being a little bit of everything and not enough of anything, but this urchin deserves to glow.
