Stopped in here the other day, famished after the ardours of shoe-​shopping down the road. To be honest I don’t remember the name of the dish I ordered, but it was orange and had bits of chicken through it. One of the ‘tikkas,’ I think, if that even makes sense. It was very flavoursome and tasty; sauce thick and spicy. The rice came piled up intrepidly in a little styrofoam container… appreciated the generous portion size but they could maybe revise the technical side of things so customers don’t risk perishing in a rice avalanche on opening the lid. The place is sparse and no-​frills, but the food is good and that’s what counts. The guy behind the counter was very nice, we shared a laugh and a chat as he was about his ladly, scoopy antics.

Top In Town is the best place in Sandringham if you want a meaty dish for cheap, and well portioned — the plates are big enough for two people to easily get satisfied. I went with a friend who has been coming here with her family for ten years or so — ordering the 50 dollar family feed which sounds great — and enough to feed a family of six for less then ten dollars each isn’t bad at all. We had a goat dish — as I was feeling adventurous, and it did not disapoint. Flavors bursting on the tongue, big bits of meat scattered throughout the dish. I’m always a little bit disapointed when food just gets microwaved and served, but Top in Town manage to transcend this niggle and provide a good dinner option.

This place isn’t flash by any means, but it’s less about the atmosphere and really more about the food. And the food is very good. Pretty straight forward place — they do curries. Here are the curries. And if the names of the curries sound unfamiliar to you (which they might if your idea of authentic Indian food is a plate of butter chicken and a cheese naan) they’re happy to give you a sample to try. When we went the guy behind the counter was really friendly, without being at all pushy. He was happy to let us take our time and bicker about what we should get, and when we finally made our choice we weren’t disappointed. I can’t actually remember what we got, something with chicken. It was pretty hot, but not overly so to our Western palates.
