This is going to be a huge call but… This is the best sorbet and ice cream I have ever had. You MUST try Kapiti ice cream!

Kapati is one of New Zealand’s favourite cheese brands and it’s clear to see why when you meet the team at The Kapati Store on Shortland Street. The staff are clearly passionate about the products they sell and are knowledgeable about the different varieties of cheese on offer. It is great that these sorts of shops are now in the CBD and this is the perfect place to pop into on the way home for some after work treats. Aside from cheese, they sell all the things to go with cheese(except wine!) and of course their ice cream is a crowd favourite too.

Great ice cream!!! Just as good as Giapo(and not as ostentatious) for half the price. Would come here any time and not think twice about spending $ 4.50 on a huge cone!

I read about the kapiti store being one of the best lunch spots in Auckland and it certainly is — it’s not only great for an amazing grilled cheese sandwiches and pickles but also for amazing ice cream for dessert! The staff are really friendly and offer samples from their extensive cheese range. Their wine list is also comprehensive and well priced if you feel like a vino

I have to give this place 5 stars because I’m pretty much there every day throughout winter. I work just up the road, so it’s super convenient for me. The thing I love most of all is the grilled cheese sandwich. It is SO delicious, and best of all, only $ 5. They also do a soup and grilled cheese combo for $ 8 which I think is great value. It’s really hard(I find, anyway) to get food at a decent price in the city. Particularly when you’re lazy like me and just don’t have the capacity to bring in lunch every day. I love my Wok’n’Noodle(which I will review also), but at $ 14 a pop, you def can’t do that daily. The staff are lovely in there, and on Fridays they always jazz up the grilled cheese with something delicious. A couple of weeks ago, it was slathered in balsamic jelly. So freaking good. Tip: Obviously the ice cream is awesome during summer(the plum ice cream is to die for), and if you’re a tourist stop in for some cheese tasting.

The Kapiti store use to be in Elliot Street then moved next door to Hotel De Brett. It’s a nice shop obviously specializing in Kapiti products; they sell ice cream here too!(I love their berry and ginger nut flavours). They have cheese tastings too, a good opportunity, if you’ve seen cheeses in the supermarket you want to try before buying. The people working there are pretty helpful; they know their stuff when it comes to cheese and how it’s made. What is the difference between Brie and Camembert you ask?(Different kinds of mould, and Camembert is made with unpasteurized milk) it’s not incredibly large the store, but I like to come in here sometimes to have a little wonder and see what’s on the tasting block for the day.

YUM! The Kapiti Store pretty much epitomises everything I love under one roof — cheeses and ice cream. And the yoghurt is pretty good too. But I am a massive cheese fan and very proud to call Kapiti home-grown — I think it holds its own against even the best international cheeses. The Kapiti ice cream range is also in a league of its own, with delicious and original flavours like lemongrass & ginger, or dark chocolate, chilli & raspberry. You can also purchase specialty breads, fruit pastes, figs, olives and other delicious accompaniments for the many, many cheese you will find yourself buying.

The Kapiti Store holds some of the best New Zealand exports and is a great place to showoff some Kiwi genius to overseas travelers. The cutest thing was seeing 4 elderly tourists swapping bulbous ice creams in front of the street-side counter. Kapiti Fine Foods has many gourmet, and most award winning, cheeses, ice creams and yoghurts. Boasting about a high-class Kiwi fromagerie, with product that can hold its own against the rest of the world’s, is a strange experience. Well-versed can point out a great match for your cheese from their selection of jams, jellies and preserves. As a New Zealander, The Kapiti Store is a shop to feel proud of.

Kapiti Store. Who cares what you order — it’s guaranteed to be AMAZING. Why spend money on a coffee, when for the same price you can get an enormous icecream in pretty much any flavour you’ve never imagined before! Or you can get your scoop made into a creaming soda — I tried the apple crumble flavour for that — pretty incredible. And then the next time you come back(because you won’t be able to fit it all in), get a grilled cheese sandwich. OMG. Cheese to the max. Before you leave, you have to buy a block of cheese to eat later with some crackers. Prices are the same or cheaper as the supermarket, so it’s a great deal and I’d much prefer to buy direct from the cheese makers! Oh, and if you’re a real cheese lover, you can order a cheese cake for your wedding or fancy event — it’s various sizes of cheese rounds stacked up like a multi-tiered cake. SUCH A GOODIDEA.
