Running Horse

One visit deep and I feel like I’ve been a regular for years. Running Horse has got the perfect mix of friendly & laidback. And it’s just as well — It’s a small space so you’re inadvertently sharing your conversation with the guys behind the counter (unless you sit outside).
As far as food goes, they’ve got a small (3 items, or 2 when we went) breakfast menu and a cabinet brimming full of goodies. We both opted for the sage butter baked eggs served on toasted sourdough, which smelt heavenly and tasted even better. It’s definitely not a dish for those on a diet — the drizzle of sage butter is rather liberal — but if you’re a butter lover, it’s worth every mouthful.
Running Horse also do a mean long black. It’s hardly surprising since they use to own Johnny Feedback. The roast of choice is Supreme and it’s pretty grunty — the perfect early morning pick-​me-​up.
