Australian chain Pie Face has finally made it to New Zealand! Not that I was waiting for it or anything, but it is was of those shops that I find as cute as pie(I’m a smiley face marketing victim, ain’t I?). I am not a big fan of savoury pies but was craving a little post-lunch treat and decided to go for one of the sweet mini-pies on offer at Pie Face: a mini pecan pie accompanied by a Strong(one of their coffee blends) long black. I loved my coffee and the little pie was the perfect treat both in size(portion control here!) and taste. Next time I’ll try the ricotta and pear one!

Savory and sweet pies you can get anytime of the day. I tried their buttered chicken pie and it was delicious! You can also«stack» upgrade the pies; topping it with mash potato, mashed peas, and gravy. Do it, it’s really good!

I first discovered Pie Face on a holiday to Australia. The name, and then realising the pies all had funny faces on them, was what initially perked my interest. On tasting a pie, I discovered they were also delicious. Today I purchased two mini pies(savoury size) for $ 5 from their new Auckland shop in the CBD. I chose a chicken and mushroom flavour and also a steak. They were both so tasty and they didn’t skimp on the filling(which I’m sure you’ll agree is super important). The bacon and egg pie seemed to be a popular choice in the ordering line. Alongside the classic mince, and steak and cheese are a thai chicken curry flavour, as well as tandoori vegetable. Apart from pies, there was a range of cakes and pastries also on offer. So next time you are craving a pie in Auckland central — Pie Face gets my vote.
