O’Born to be Worn

This was a lovely stumble upon today! Walking past I was drawn in by this charming shop windows display. The vintage, new and pre loved clothing and accessories were a delight to behold. Laid out nicely in colour co-​ordination that didn’t go overboard. Actually, everything was laid out with obvious thought and consideration, almost like an art gallery exhibition.
The range of hats particularly drew me in, I am a hat fan and so is hubby. So of course this era of 20’s — 40’s the time of art deco, full of style and grace, knew hats well. Masterpieces that can transform the most simple of outfits. O’Born to be Worn stocked mostly women’s gear, but had a few bits and bob for the man too.
I don’t know what else to really say about this place, but that I guess I hope it stays around for quite some time, the effort and work that has gone into this collection is appreciated, and a big well done to the owner!

This place is an absolute treasure trove of pre-​loved amazingness. Every era of vintage clothing from Art Deco to classic 80s (seriously, some major designer pieces) form part of Mary O’Born’s collection which on the last occasion I visited, overflowed into several jampacked storage rooms upstairs.
There are shoes, bags, jewels and accessories and the shop has an olde worlde glamour feel that shows off Mary’s clever eye for design. She knows her stuff and is a proper collector, and a character to boot.
The items here are pricey (most around the $ 100 mark or more) but incredibly special.
Mary seems to have had a recent sort-​out and also now seems to be keeping fairly regular opening hours. You can usually call her mobile (number in the window) and she’ll pop on down and open the shop up for you if you’re super-​keen.
Even if this kind of vintage is beyond your price range it’s worth coming for a look — many of these items are art pieces and the merchandising makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into a lady’s private boudoir from a time gone by. Gorgeous gorgeous stuff.
