Best local butcher I have ever been to and I have been to a few! SUCH an array of meats and cuts from beef cheeks to whole poussin to chicken livers. Most of the meat is organic or free range, they even have my favourite Bostocks organic chicken all the way from Hawkes Bay! Looks like they are a sustainable bunch too as offal is on offer as well. I am not a big fan of sausages but the sausages made on site are delicious with lots of different flavours to choose from! If you are short on time or imagination for a BBQ they have a fridge full of already marinated ribs, butterfly chicken or chicken skewers which is convenient. If you’re commuting you will need to get the 5pm ferry across to catch them on a weeknight as they close at 6pm

I popped in for a looksie while up in Waiheke. Nice butchery. I didn’t notice any butchery smell. Being a fan of the good old English pork pie, I decided to try the Steak and Mushroom pie. This was a proper pie. Full of meat. It didn’t have as strong a mushroom taste as the Big Ben steak and mushroom. Could have done with a bit more seasoning. I liked it though. This was a big pie suited to a big hunger. Constructed in the same fashion as the pork pie this one is eaten piping hot. Looking to try another pie next time I’m on Waiheke Island. Will also try their game meat. Yum yum.

We spruced up the BBQ at our Waiheke batch this summer and were not disappointed with the barbecued venison and pork Boerworst we picked up from Humblepie Village Butchery, or for that matter their marinated free range chicken drumsticks. Followed this up with Sunday brunch and some of their excellent streaky bacon and eggs. Good old fashioned personal attention is what you get here, a friendly chat and tips on how to best cook your cut of organic and free range beef, chicken, duck and pork. Sometimes they even have a big old dog bone for my black Labrador.
