The first time I went here I was working with a guy who told me to get him the ‘strongest coffee there is.” So I got them to do me a 5 shot long black. Safe to say the rest of that day was frenetic and stressful, with quite a few stops at toilets on the way. I recently went back to Greenwoods Kitchen to get something to eat as I was in the area and felt like reliving that glorious moment. The place was super busy, with every seat taken and a line of people waiting at the counter. It’s no suprise, as this must be the cheapest option in the area, one that provides quality food. I had a lasagne which was as good as lasagne can be, and my coffee was nice and strong — but maybe not quite as strong as that infamous 5 shot of yesteryear. The interior is nothing to write home about, but the food and coffee was above par.

Honestly, I don’t see what the rave about this bakery is. Greenwood’s Kitchen is an ample sized bakery with a nice big cabinet full of cakes and tarts and pasta meals– nothing you can easily pick up and eat on the run. Where have all the bakeries gone that sell sandwiches– normal sandwiches on normal bread, without half the fillings falling out into the display counter, so that you see that the camembert on the eggplant isn’t touching the plum-marinated venison and sunflower seeds? What is the purpose of having 5 types of lettuce in one salad? Just put some fucking bacon between bread with some salad and be done with it! Stale breads, average coffee, unexciting pies(with big chunks of dry meat that fall out and leave a hollow pastry shell), nothing really special unless you care to sit down and dine in. It’s not open on Sunday and isn’t really close enough to anything to warrant dining in. There is one friendly staff member that works there, so try and get her if you visit.

This is a great place to visit for a bite to eat, after you’ve worked up an appetite walking around Cornwall Park. The sheer amount of delicious cabinet food available at this place has to be seen to be believed. I always have a tough time deciding what to choose — muffins, cake, fruit tarts, filled rolls, pies are just some of the options. Loaves of bread are also available for purchase. And to top it all off, the prices are very reasonable when compared to other cafes. Don’t let the plain interior put you off, this place does amazing food so enjoy! Unless you are crazy, after one visit to this much loved establishment, you too will become a repeat customer.
