Coffee tastes different but Tastes good. The place is very hard to find. Peaceful atmosphere with good architecture. A waterfall in front gives you pleasant experience.

When I am on the hunt for new cafes to try I like to refer to the Metro top 50 as it has been good to me in the past, I have found some of my most cherished cafes this way. I came across an old metro winner from 2010 and it was Gala café in Mt Eden. I had never heard of this place so I went in search. If you weren’t specifically looking for it I don’t think you would ever find this café, it is hidden away behind so many galleries, design stores and offices. When you walk in you have to sigh with relief, the place is light, it’s relaxing and sunny! We found a table and we were served immediately, I chose some of their gluten free bread with homemade preserves, I remember the price was quite reasonable too, around $ 8 I think. All their counter food is covered which I really like to see, I feel uneasy when café food is just sitting out for people to cough on and flies to land on. My coffee arrived and it was perfect no complaints there, when my food arrived it was presented beautifully and oh my goodness was it tasty. The best part about it was their homemade rhubarb jam, it was so sweet but still had all the flavour of rhubarb, their gluten free bread was incredible too. It was light and fluffy kind of like a cupcake which was amazing as gluten free bread is normally quite heavy and dense. I was thoroughly impressed with Gala and I am definitely planning on going back soon, is breakfast tomorrow too soon?
