I stopped here for my first meal in New Zealand, and ugh. It was good. It reminded me quite a bit of hipster San Francisco with it’s woodsy modern ambiance and graffiti style writing. The breakfast choices are quite filling and high quality at a slightly high, but reasonable price. I was ravenous from our flight in, and got the Smoked Fish Kedgeree. I admired the lovely bright orange-yellow egg(eggs in America are a depressing mild yellow variety) and took in the scent of the herbed rice. Yes, I knew it was going to be a fantastic trip. The husby got the Dukkah eggs with the chorizo and was equally elated. We enjoyed a white espresso and chai latte with our meals and headed out on our merry way.

Federal & Wolfe is a little bit of soul amongst skyscrapers and financial services. Sadly, I was only in for coffee(Kokako, my fave) but the muffins and other baked goods looked pretty delicious and the breakfast menu was very appetising. I brought my team back a day later(we were in the city for conference) and converted them all — nothing is better than a decent cup of coffee when you’re otherwise stuck with the giant vats of car grease that you get function venues — so that several of them were back again on Day Three! The vibe is very relaxed and welcoming, with none of the pretension you might expect either from a café in the business district or space that’s primarily organic with graffiti menus on the walls. I’ll have to make an effort to get into the city on a Saturday for breakfast so I can try out their food, but next time I’ve got a morning meeting in town I’ll be sure to stop here.

The location is good but the coffee/brunch shop is gorgeous and trendy. Graffiti etc to give that alternative vibes. The coffee is made to perfection but didn’t find the breakfast options to be awesome. It is good, tasty but not overly different than other. Yes a great place, but nothing really above the rest. however try the smoothies they are delicious and will give you that morning kick !

If you are in Auckland, you must have breakfast or brunch here if you want to try something different and interesting! Everything on the menu is pretty unique. I love all the different spices that they infuse into their dishes. I’d recommend the Dukkah Eggs — it comes with Chorizo sausages! The eggs were poached PERFECTLY! If you have a heavier appetite and like spice, try the Smoked Fish Kedgeree — Fragrant basmati rice, smoked fish, poached eggs, lemon and fresh herbs. In addition, the place is rocking a graffiti design style. Very hipster style and love the laid back vibe. I didn’t get a chance to try their juice but it sounded pretty amazing. Just look at the wall for the menu.

One of my favourite city cafes and a definite cut above the rest. The area around St Patrick’s square has got some great eating options and Federal & Wolfe is no exception. It’s one of the few eco-friendly cafes in the city and worth a visit for their free range and organic meals(including meats). Great menu, really friendly service, and the coffee is top notch. It’s open on the weekend and is a good place to start before embarking on shopping expeditions.

Laid back non-pretentious vibe café with graffiti on the walls but top notch service and food. Not a cheap place but worth every penny in my opinion. I was there for a late holiday breakfast at 10:00 and the place was buzzing. Had a fantastic juice with carrot(think there was also orange and pineapple in it), the dukkah eggs with chorizo which were absolutely to die for, and a flat white. I’d definitely recommend it and I know I’d be a regular if I lived here!

The Dukkah Eggs are amazing! Good strong coffee and great food gets the stars. It’s kind of a hipster place with lots of vegan choices on the menu. The Chai Latte and Almond Croissant are very tasty. A good breakfast choice in Auckland.

Walking about Auckland, I found this spot for breakfast and decided to give it a go. I ordered an eggs florentine without the english muffin(striving for Paleo), avocado, and a long black. It was quite tasty: the eggs were poached halfway between over-easy and over-medium, so the yolk didn’t go all runny everywhere, and the avocados were fresh. After my meal, I looked over on the wall and noted that they have a selection of juices and smoothies. My eyes were immediately drawn to the hot honey lemon & ginger brew. I’ve been attracted to all things lemon and ginger, namely for their detoxifying effects, but I have always been a fan of ginger because of its fresh taste and its spiciness. The drink was phenomenal, and I look forward to making it a part of my routine during the week, as they are closed on Sundays. :(

My go-to spot for a morning meeting in the city. Yummy Kokako coffee, plenty of sunny tables to sit at, friendly service, and the brioche!!! Ohhhhh the brioche. Yum. If they’ve got the rhubarb and custard version, don’t hesitate! Light and fluffy, not too sweet, and oh so delicious.

I ventured in here for a Friday morning breakfast yesterday, and it did not disappoint! The place was packed, admittedly it was 8.30am so rush hour for them. I was keen to try the poached eggs with dukkah and chorizo so after a quick scan of the menu I ordered these along with a mocha. Despite being pretty full this café had a breezy and spacious feel, with a quirky style of mismatched wood and mixed metal furniture. Slightly retro but with clean modern lines, felt very serene :) Coffee came promptly and was nice but could have been hotter and stronger. However it was still quite nice and not overly sweet. The eggs followed quickly afterwards and were nicely presented stacked on top of salad of rocket and creamy feta. The chorizo was nicely crisped and dukkah sprinkled over the eggs with a nice drizzle of olive oil pulling it all together. Put it all together and wow it was great! The chorizo had a nice heat which worked beautifully with the eggs(which were a little over) and the beautifully creamy, slightly sharp feta. The toasted white bread(sourdough?) added some crunch but I would have preferred 5 grain for more texture as this was a bit dry and tasteless. The nutty dukkah and grassy olive oil were great. This dish would also be great swapping the toast for mushroom or roast tomato to make it low carb. Overall this place is quite a gem tucked away off Federal square in the CBD, away from the hustle and bustle of Albert St. Makes a nice change from the soulless in-house cafes in the surrounding office towers. Can’t wait to go back and try the lunch menu and their sweet treats!

Great spot in a rather average part of town, F&W is all about organic, sustainable and locally sourced. Not to be missed are their smoothies and juices, which come chilled in large glass jars. I’m also a huge fan of their chicken salad. It has the most delicious honey mustard dressing and lots of vege(carrots, zuchinni) — the perfect lunch for those wanting to power through and arfternoon of work without feeling like a post-lunch siesta. The staff at F&W are also lovely. I recently came here for lunch with a friend who works nearby but hadn’t stopped in for a while and the owner greeted her with a big hug like she was some long lost friend. Love it!

My little retreat in the middle of the city! Federal & Wolfe is a short walk from work but feels like you are in a different world. It’s quirky aesthetics, friendly staff and refreshing beats that are a mix of hip-hop, funk, old school and alty is my saviour from a stuffy corporate office. The food is all happily farmed which earns mad props in my book. They also have quite a few sustainability badges for the environmentally friendly way they choose to run their business… Another winner! I do dearly miss the ray of sunshine Kate and her predecessor the handsome shawty but there is still Matt and the beautiful lady who has just had a baby who it is far to far gone to ask her name now. They say change is as good as a holiday and I love this holiday Onya Federal&Wolfe!

We were recently traveling in New Zealand and happened upon this place, as it was close to our hotel. I LOVED it. I loved the hip vibe, the great coffee, the friendly service, and they had some great gluten-free options for breakfast. We ended up back here the next morning. I especially enjoyed the sweet risotto and the omelette. It felt like it mostly catered to the folks working in the area, which is always a good sign when a place is packed by locals. We also watched several people walk in to get takeaway coffee at the counter. From previous posts, I can confirm they’re open on Saturday mornings, as we were there on a Saturday.

I’m not so much into the vibe at Federal & Wolfe and it’s not a place I could see myself hanging out in on the regular but they do a very good breakfast. Their sweet risotto with fruit compote is gluten and dairy free, not too sweet, and totally delicious. I had it with a side of bacon and a pot of tea and was fueled up for the morning in the best way possible.

Don’t be dissuaded by your first impression walking in(unless you’re into their unique stylistic blend of backpackers-lounge chic and construction site) instead take a moment to appreciate what makes this place a local favourite — the long communal table, the potted plants, the simple, minimalist décor allow you to focus your attention in one direction: the food and coffee. Ethical sourcing from local producers is the focal point of this brunch hotspot — as it should be — and you’ll be able to see exactly which local farms your dish has come from. It’s all very Portlandia and that’s certainly something I can get behind. The fact that the coffee is delicious and served in mustache mugs is an added benefit. If you’re looking for a café with character, delicious breakfast, and food you can feel good about, this is definitely your place in central Auckland.

Federal and Wolfe is awesome, from the coloured crates and school tables and chairs to the staff, food and coffee. Of course you know the coffee will be good, this place is owned by the people who bought us Kokako, so that is the coffee you get. The food likewise as with Kokako tastes great and is good for you. Fresh, whole ingredients, the food is kept quite simple but the tastes great still. There are a lot of options for vegetarians and vegans here too. The first time I came I asked the girl about the food and she was so helpful. Informed me of what was vegan suitable and ran off to the kitchen several times to question the guy back there. We had lightly toasted sourdough and conserves with coffee, both of which was very good. Nothing better than a lazy Saturday breakfast, especially one you do not have to make yourself. Just keep in mind Federal and Wolfe are closed on Sundays so if you want that weekend breakfast or brunch, make it a Saturday.
