Devonport Chocolates CBD

I generally stop in here to wrangle my way into some free samples. I’m sure they recognize me now but they’re too polite to say anything. I’m not a total cheapskate, it’s just that I would spend far too much money if I gave into my whims and bought stuff from here all the time, so I make do with the freebies. That little hit of chocolate is enough to last me though a decent shopping trip.
My favourite products they stock here would have to be the loose handcrafted chocolates in the cabinets, and the packaged spiced hot chocolate mix they do, come winter I am definately going to stock up on this and go into hibernation until the sun comes back again.

This is a cute little store inside the Queens Arcade that reminds you of the old style candy shops which I suppose makes sense considering the traditional brand personality of Devonport Chocolates. I came here for the first time with a friend of mine last year, the smell of chocolate in the store was intense. The lady behind the counter was really friendly and had a lot of product knowledge when questioned about the different types of chocolates on display in the cabinets as well as throughout the store.
That is one of the great things about Davonport Chocolates, whether you want to buy a full sized tablet or a smaller bar, or even just an individual chocolate or truffle, they have a fantastic range to suit all budgets and tastes. Even as a vegan I can buy chocolate from Davonport, the freeze dried raspberry dark chocolate tablet is heavenly and every once in a while I treat myself to one. I don’t think that chocolate like this should be reserved for gifting to others. Gift it to yourself and take the time to appreciate all the hard work that went into creating it or share it with someone, but don’t reserve beautiful chocolate like this just for special occasions, this type of chocolate makes an occasion special.

Because it’s quite a small shop, as soon as you walk in the smell of chocolate hits you. If you’re a chocoholic like me, you won’t really want to leave. This is a famous Auckland chocolate shop, and it’s earned it’s reputation by being the very best. The atmosphere in the shop is rather hushed and posh, and service hasn’t always been the friendliest when I’ve been in. But the chocolates are delicious and there’s an amazing range to choose from. Definitely the way to go for a gift that will really impress.
