We’ve traveled Germany extensively, grew up with German heritage and strong European influence in Cleveland, Ohio and now we are residents in Auckland. We lived her in 2003 – 2005 never came here… OURLOSS!!! Extremely authentic, BESTBRATS we’ve ever had and all the fixings were SPOTON!!! We will be back at least once a month!(Oh… BTW… I’m a chef)!!! My second visit was even better. Had my whole family this time!

A great place for a casual dinner and drink, especially after a day on the beach. Der Metz is right on Kohi beach, away from the crowded/no parking central Auckland. It is a German/Austrian themed restaurant with a cute kitchy interior. The food is not super fancy and posh(call me ignorant but I don’t think German food generally is) but it is a decent hearty meal. I love coming here mostly for the beer because what the Germans lack in food they make up in beer. Also you can bring all of your friends because they have big tables that can accommodate larger groups.

need a big meal after a night out? come down to der metz! they offer brunch until 4pm, and all your faves are included on the menu. plus if you get the big brekkie i recommend adding a side of goulash to pour over the top. delicious! dinner wise this place provides ginormous schnitzels and a wide variety of German /Austrian food. if the way to your man’s heart is through his tummy, come here on your next date. he will also be stoked with the enormous jugs of international beer to choose from.

I’ve never been to Austria, so I can’t say if this place is authentic, but it is quirky and offers dishes you don’t see everywhere. The wine list has several choices by the glass, including lots of sweeter varieties of white like riesling and gwertz. Long list of German(?) beers, including HB on tap, which you don’t see many places. Meals are absolutely massive, and the schnitzels we ordered came without a spec of greens on the plate. Everything is very yummy, and the place was busy even though it was still early for a meal. This is not a place to go if you are watching the calories. Kids menu was good, for $ 10 it included an icecream sundae for afters. Service was friendly and efficient, they found us a table even though they were busy and the tables were booked. First round of drinks was slow to come, but soon more waitresses were on the floor and service flowed more smoothly.

This is a German restaurant famous for its enormous meals and huge meaty servings. We have heard a lot of great things about it and were excited to go with a group one evening. They have lots of German beers and things, and the menu is pretty amazing. All sorts of sausages and meat cuts and interesting meals that you don’t find elsewhere. We were a very large group, seated at multiple tables and this seemed to be a bit of a problem. I think the staff wanted to bring all our meals out at the same time, rather than treating us as separate tables. They cleverly took an order list with our names and our order which I thought was very sensible since the dishes were all in German and none of us really knew how to pronounce them anyway. But it took 2 hours for our food to arrive, and when it did they were just calling out«who ordered the xxxxxx ?» and of course none of us knew. Then there was a whole lot of swapping meals from one table to the other, I’m not sure why. We reminded them of the list they made and they thought it would be good to look at that to sort out which dish went to which person. No kidding. The food was pretty authentic I think, and large servings. If you like German food, definitely come here, but probably not in a giant group.
