Daniels Books In The Bay

I love the serenity of a peaceful bookstore, and this one in St Heliers always has the perfect background music for it. Kinda makes me want to just sit in here and chill out. Well they sell the CD’s here so maybe I should just stop being so cheap and buy one. The store is not very big, and to be honest it doesn’t usually have many books that appeal to me, but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be something for you. Plus they seem to rotate their stock pretty regularly. Its location right in St Heliers Bay means that it’s the perfect little store if you’ve come to the beach to relax and forgotten to bring your book.

Daniel’s Bookshop is the one and only independently owned bookstore to grace St Heliers Village. This means that although the prices are a little bit more than across the road, they have a bit more of an interesting variety of books on offer, from travel to educational to biographical. However when I went in the other day they seem to be pretty low on stock, I didn’t seem to find the treasures that I normally do in here. They do have a growing sale and second hand section though, where you can probably pick up a bargain or two (with books starting from the low price of $ 2). They also have a huge range of beautiful cards, much more interesting than the generic ones you find across the road.

Daniel’s is a nice wee bookshop that always seem to be playing beautiful music whenever I go in. Perhaps that’s because they sell quite a large range of CDs, mostly Putumayo type stuff, along with a really nice range of greeting cards, and of course, books.
Last time I went in I noticed they’ve stocked up on elephantine coffee table books, which, according to the grapevine, will be the saviour of the non-​digital publishing industry. They certainly are very attractive, especially the Playboy one, which was encased secretively all in black cardboard, but there was also a gorgeous Klimt, all goldy and beckoning.
Check the bargain table out the front and the really reasonably-​priced Alexander McCall Smith editions inside. It’s also worth mentioning that recently I asked if I could return something here, just because I changed my mind, and the woman working there was absolutely lovely about it. Hooray for customer service, it does exist.
