I really love writing reviews fresh, especially when the experience is as good as this one was. I have eaten here when this place first opened and was pretty impressed back then, but this place has really jumped up a considerable amount since then and I’d go so far to say it’s one of the best two Teppan dining experiences I’ve had(the other was a VERY upmarket place in Tokyo.) which is saying something because I’ve eaten my fair share, and my wifes share as well :) My wife and I ended up here after the restaurant we had intended to go to was full because we were late for our booking(not complaining). This was near the home show where we had spent the past 5 hours. We were hungry and tired and just needed to eat. My wife had the Chicken Terayaki Main, and I had the Wagyu Set which consisted of 3 little starters, a lovely cold pumpkin soup, smoked chicken with a tomato salad and some sashimi which was Mullet(wow YUM!) and Salmon. Then there was a LOVELY salad with Japanese dressing, and a seafood Miso Soup, which was actually miso with a lovely bit of fresh fish and a prawn, both beautifully cooked and added their flavour to the dish. What was awesome was the fish and prawn were set alight for a few seconds, and the flavour of that was apparent in both the items and the soup. The Wagyu was prepared expertly and I left it to the Chef to decide how it best be cooked. He did an outstanding job with it, it was fork tender, full of flavour and despite a small portion, plenty as it’s so rich because of the fat marbled in it. My wifes Teriyaki Chicken was tender, not too strong and nicely seared. Service was flawless, I mean REALLY good. Even so far as to say that I asked what the dressing was on my salad and she came back to list about 9 ingredients after consulting with the chef. Probably the highlight of the night was a honey and ginger crème brûlée. I have eaten a LOT of this stuff, the world over, and this was without doubt, the best I’ve ever had. The top was crispy and caramel, the honey apparent but not overwhelming, the ginger delicate and the texture perfectly smooth. My wife is neither a particularly big fan of Ginger, nor at all of honey and said she was blown away. This is a step above anything I’d previously had in NZ(Teppan), and now on my must come back frequently list, of which only 3 – 4 other restaurants in NZ are on.

Came here the other day for the first time as I desperately wanted some dinner and just couldn’t muster the energy to make any. I stopped because it is on my way home from yoga and I always thought it looked nice. This restaurant is classified as a teppan-yaki dining experience which simply means they cook everything on an iron griddle. I love this because everything comes out tasting smokey and rich which really feels like a treat. I chose their take-away dinner box which was $ 20 per person. The food was really fresh and tasty but I do think $ 20 is very expensive, three of us ate and it ended up costing $ 60. The service was good however, even though I was just ordering takeaway, the waiter brought me a glass of water while I was waiting which I thought was a nice touch. The cut of salmon was amazing however, really fresh and not fishy tasting at all it was mild and creamy if that makes sense. If I was feeling rich one day I would definitely come back, the only thing that would stop me would be cost.
