Don’t be put off by the faded, slightly gross-looking banner on the outside — Blue Dude have some fabulous swimwear pieces inside, most of which you won’t find really find all under one single roof anywhere else in Auckland. They cater for women of all shapes and sizes, and conveniently sell most of the pieces as seperates so if you are big-busted and tiny-waisted(or vice versa) then you won’t have to spend a fortune buying multiple sets so that you get both the top and bottom fitting right. That being said, the pieces are not cheap — you could end up spending between 100 and 300 dollars for a full bikini or one-piece. However all of the stock is very good quality, coming from the likes of Seafolly and Jets, so the pieces should last you multiple seasons without showing much signs of wear and tear.

Blue Dude Swimwear is not for dudes. Unless you wear Speedos, which is about as close you can get to wearing a bikini in public places if you’re a dude. And if you’re a dude that is going to spend over $ 60 on synthetic undies, you’re better off going to the Speedo store in New Market or buying a surf brand. The staff member there was visibly disappointed by my gender and«hrumphed» as I browsed their meager amount of men’s togs. She popped out of one rack of bikinis, the counter was hidden behind another– the store is a throng of thongs! The exterior is cheap and out-of-date and in the dingy Durham lane. It’s much more enjoyable and professional shopping near the beach instead of the middle of the city. Hell, I’ve even had better service in Takapuna or Mt Maunganui than here.

It’s great when a shop does exactly what it says it does. Blue Dude is certainly a swimwear store. This place is packed to brim with swimwear and accessories of all styles and sizes. Stocking brands like Seafolly make it very popular all year round. Get in quick if there’s a certain style you want, they’ll also put you on the waiting list if it’s likely run out. This is the kind of tog shop you can go to with your mum and your friends because there is definitely something for everyone. The staff are really nice and extremely knowledgeable considering how much stuff they have here! Things get pretty manic around summer time so be prepared.

Blue Dude is the store where all the togs you’ve ever wanted live. Stockists of popular Australian brand Seafolly, Blue Dude is the best swimwear store in central Auckland. The staff are friendly and very helpful, with the owner being able to take one look at you and know which size and style will best suit you — a massive bonus because, girls, we all know how depressing bikini shopping can be! Blue Dude is often packed to the brim as it stocks swimwear for all ages, sizes and styles. Though this is one of the best things about it, it does have a down side. Blue Dude is quite a small store and when it’s busy it feels a bit claustrophobic and can get incredibly hot when trying on swimwear in summer.

It’s such a treat to walk into any fashion retailer and find that they’ve done the editing for you and are offering such a careful selection. The buyer at Blue Dude obviously has an excellent eye for value, colour, and cut, and the difficulty here is narrowing your choice down, rather than desperately seeking something that’s just okay. Blue Dude Swimwear rather accurately calls itself a swimwear ‘mecca’, and given how long they’ve been around, they’re obviously doing all the right things. When you step into Blue Dude it seems a bit over-stocked, but I think that’s just a feature of swimwear shops really. Although they cater for men and children as well, their speciality is definitely women’s swimwear.
