This is one of the few places that know of so far in Auckland offering ‘flavored’ hotpots. A trend that hopefully we will see more of since it’s quite popular in Asia. If you’ve had hotpot/steamboat before, then you know how this works. To the uninitiated, you basically have a flavored soup base and a selection of raw or half cooked food items which you ‘drop’ in the soup to cook or heat up. The fun is in the cooking, sharing and stealing what your friends and family have cooking in the pot. We ordered the miso seafood pot and to start off, which comes included some prawns, crab, mussels, vegetables, udon noodles. Each hot pot comes with different items included in it so check and see what you have already and make sure you don’t double up if you are ordering extras. Since there was 4 of us, we ordered some extra meat, fish balls, tofu and sauces. The soup was pretty flavorsome, the come and top up your soup when you run low. Price wise, the pot itself will probably feed 2 – 3 people and they average around $ 30-$ 35. Your extras such as meat, veges, fish balls would be around $ 6 – 12 depending on what you get. The 4 of us spend around $ 60 for dinner on this night. On top of the hot pot, they also have side dishes such as the stinky tofu which is a Taiwanese street food(I am a MASSIVE fan of stinky tofu but I’ve been told it’s an acquired taste). As I wasn’t able to order it this time around, I will be making another visit back here and will report back on this at a later date.
